A thread for those who are watching it.

Not sure how interested in it I will be.
Like I said on the not watching thread, it may depend how far some Countires I am interested in, get to, in the competition.

Sarnia are you aware that Emma Hayes is British and umm had a fair bit of success as Chelsea women's manager? That's why the USA women's team 'poached' her away to coach their national team.

I confess that I was not aware of her achievements. However, my 2 sons, 1 of my daughters and a grandson, all Chelsea supporters have let me know in no uncertain terms. I am suitably chastened. blush

You're forgiven! I too am a lifelong Chelsea supporter unlike my husband, sons and grandsons who support a different London club 🙄

Yes it was and they were.
I was very pleased to see.

Speaking of women’s participation the game I have just watched had a woman referee and very determined she was too.

Was that the South Africa game?

I think all the officials apart from the VAR were female 👍🏻

Never have liked football even moreso nowadays with all the money involved. Older brother was a professional, played for his country as a youth and an adult.

Forget England. Best team to watch. Irrespective of the time they play. Argentina by a country mile.

Lionel Messi scored 3 magical goals in their match against Algeria. He is now 38 and this is his six world cup.

A genius and a real football God.

I will be watching the England matches and the French ones as I currently live in France BUT I think I will only be able to watch those matches broadcast by the BBC.
ITVX is an absolute rubbish transmitter with buffering , freezing and failing so you simply cannot bear to carry on watching. I started watching England Croatia last night and ITV buffered and cut out at the Harry Kane penalties.
Absolutely infuriating.Goalkeeper foul... Captain to retake..... no bother...... captain's penalty.... and I didn't see any of it..... aaargh......

I don’t watch football normally, but am an avid World Cup watcher when the best of the best are all gathered together.won’t watch all the matches in the early stages, Almost impossible to do, but have so far thoroughly enjoyed all I’ve seen. Not a dull match between them. Obviously supporting England, Scotland ( and Japan as my eldest and family live there) , but likely watching most of the later matches as they thin out. After all the ‘empty stadium’ warnings I was surprised at how packed the ones I’ve watched were.

A wonderful goalkeeper, a great draw for Cape Verde.

He was determined that ball was not hitting the back of his net. I always like to see the underdogs upsetting the apple cart. The Democratic Republic of Congo gave Portugal a run for their money too.

Well what a brilliant match well done England and Croatia played well too. Thoroughly enjoyable, did anyone else stay awake to hear the fans sing Wonderwall to the team it was moving if you can say that about an Oasis song 😂 Bring it on!!

GrannyGravy13 Thu 18-Jun-26 09:12:48

Well done England ⚽️⚽️⚽️⚽️

Fingers crossed Harry Kane is ok 🤞🏻

I found the tactics woman really annoying . She looked like she was stood in her kitchen !

As a football fan I am a member of my team's forum. The kitchen set up she is standing in has resulted in lots of remarks from the dinosaurs who consider it to be a men only game.

Who is the lady with the blackboard? And why is she there?

Sorry, I dont know.

She is the US women's football coach. I can answer that question. As to why is she there is a mystery to me too. Women have had to work hard to infiltrate British football and this woman has set them back several years. We have some very good homegrown female football presenters of our own.

Did one of the commentators just say that it wasn't 'quite the dream start' for England? Surely not!

There is a little concern that two goals were scored against England.

And I heard a commentator saying he was concerned a bit about the England defence.

Personally, I was a little concerned about Kane. He seemed to indicate he was a bit injured a couple of times.

I think he meant the first half.

Ah, maybe. Thank you 😊

Well done England

Charleygirl5 Wed 17-Jun-26 23:27:37

That match was worth watching in my opinion and I enjoyed every minute of it. Even I noticed a couple of fouls which went unnoticed. I only watch when one of our four countries is playing.

Usedtobeblonde Wed 17-Jun-26 23:08:53

Thomas Tuchel(sp) certainly gave a much needed half time pep talk.A game of two halves.
Keep it up England.
I also enjoyed the earlier game, Portugal had a lesson I felt.
I love to see the less favourable team win except of course when England are playing.

Mollygo Wed 17-Jun-26 23:08:16

Well done England
But this just made me laugh.
If I hadn’t watched the match I’d never have known that the England win in a 6 goal match meant they’d won 4-2.

And well done England, you played much better in the second half.
