Hmm, mixed result there, on impulse I did Lion Beacon & Longshadow. I see Longshadow came in 3rd at 14/1, but I managed to get 16/1, so not too bad,
10p up overall on the first race!

PS, I've done Windshear in the 2.30, but do like Snow Sky!

Well, my eyes welled up with tears when Kingman swooped past Toronado; unbelieveable as it is that doesn't happen to me a lot when I'm watching the racing but, when it does, it catches me by surprise and I know I've seen something special. Always a good idea to back horses with prices like that, phoenix; if I had a pound for every time I've questioned why outsiders in small races are given such huge prices I'd be rich now. By the way, there was a 100/1 winner at Worcester yesterday [still my aim, finding the 100/1 winner].

Not too bad in the 3.40, I had 10p each way on 3 different horses, and of the 3, Room key got third. I believe the price was 20/1, just checked my account and I got 40/1 so right now I'm 30p up on the day.

Well, well what an afternoon, I was swayed by you talking about* Snow Sky* and so bingo and I am glad I did.
I also had Kingsman as I said earlier, so not a bad afternoon . I have told him I will stay in tomorrow and watch racing after all.

The Sussex Stakes, what can I say it was as if just before the final charge some-one pressed a switch and off they went, quite breathtaking.

I don't believe it! I did Magique on impulse and for 10p e/w have just won £3.33

It came in at 16/1, but I got paid out on 25/1 !!!!

Who are your bookies?

I have an on-line account with William Hill Nonu and on most races they offer the "best price guaranteed thingy.

People laugh at me, but I'm quite happy with my 10p e/w bets, it's not the money it's the getting it right. Besides, by having such small bets I can have more of them, if you see what I mean.

The minimum amount you can deposit is £10, and that lasts me ages!

This will probably be where it all goes wrong, I had already backed Liberty Jack this morning, and have now also done The Confessor and Accession, on the theory that I am now using Mr Hill's money!

Was tempted by Lulu the Zulu, but odds not right.

Yippee! Not Goodwood, but I've just had a third in the 5.10 at Perth, came in at 10/1, I got 14/1

Nothing in the 5.25, my last one is now the 5.50 at Sandown.

That sounds like the sort of account I'd like. I didn't realise you could have the sort of miniscule bets I have online.

Mine are even lower than your 25p e/w Tegan ! As I say, minimum deposit or top up is £10, and that lasts me ages! My account is currently standing at £19.78, and I only topped up when it went below 50p!

Friends have sometimes said "bet you wish you had put a fiver each way!" when I have had a long odds one come in, but I'm very happy with my 10p each way ones.

Excuse the pun, but it is horses for courses, and I would rather have a fair few at 10p e/w and enjoy the fun than a smaller number at even 50p e/w.

There are some that insist on more, Betfair for example,where I think it's a minimum of £1 e/w, could be wrong, but I'm happy with what I do.

I'm very tempted by that. When petrol was cheaper I would sometimes go and place a bet on a horse but when it went through the roof a few years ago I stopped doing so, as it wasn't worth having a tiny bet if it cost more in petrol than I could possibly win. Someone on one of my forums put all of their betting money pot[which was a lot I believe] on Kingman today. I don't know how anyone can do that. I once put £5 on a horse for the Scottish National when it's owner told me it was a 'good thing'. It pulled up. I've never had a bet that big again. May sometimes go £1 ew but that is once in a blue moon. That's why I go for huge prices and bet ew [although you don't get the big prices you used to]. My problem is that I like to study big handicaps in depth and then have to have a bet because I've put so much effort into it when the main reason I've studied it is to know all about the horses that are running. I have recently pushed a lot of my ante post bets up to 50 pence ew but I have far fewer bets these days. I have a lot of 10 pence ew bets during Cheltenham week!

Give it some thought. It's not for everyone, a friend of mine say he daren't have an on-line account as he's sure he would end up spending more. But if you've got a sensible attitude, and it sounds as if you have, then why not?

For those that are worried, there's a facility whereby you can set a limit and the site won't accept bets over a certain limit. You could always go to the site and have a look and see what you think.

Of course there are loads of other things on there too, all the other sports plus casino games etc, but I just stick to the real racing (there's virtual racing as well, but that's just silly IMO!)

Right, I've had a quick look and placed a couple of earlies. Doubt if I will do as well as yesterday though!

Other races today that might be worth a look:

Andrew Balding has 2 interesting ones at Nottingham, Sleepy Blue Ocean in the 5.10, and Chesil Beach in the 5.45.

Classic Colori, 2.15 at Stratford is interesting, but odds might mean that an e/w isn't really an option. The 5.30 at Stratford has Go Ruby Go, a horse that I marked last time it ran (mainly because of the name, which made me think of Ruby Walsh, my hero!) but didn't actually back. Which was a pity because it came second at 66/1 !

I had a quick look in WH's when I was out shopping but nothing took my fancy. I did have a quick look at Nottingham, because Godolphin used to have a very good strike rate there, but didn't see anything there, either. Do you listen to William Hill Racing Radio phoenix? A lot of the people who work for them come to our racing club meetings, as one of them has been coming to the meetings with his grandfather since he was young.
