mind you- most things are 'political' - health and NHS, education, the environment, roads and transport, energy, immigration, and on, and on.

How can you 'ignore the political subjects' ? Where on earth do you begin- where is the 'border'?

I ve always like the idea of them being separate because not all news is political …
We have asked before and it’s been denied so I m not thinking it will happen this time either
I usually put none political news in Chat simply because it isn’t political and there isn’t a general news forum
If I want to mention a famous person dying or giving birth or a tree falling on a car or high seas pounding a seaside town they are news primarily and I don’t consider them political

OK look at it this way, so when posters want to enter the politics threads say about France and they start joking say about frogs' legs or something, then they get all the put downs and accusations that they are being frivolous or even stupid and derailing the thread. It becomes a bit of a slanging match and I can sort of understand that. Surely the political people get fed up with all the chatty type interjections? If not, then carte blanche on the politics threads should be applied to coin a French term. It works both ways.

One heading “Party Politics” and one heading “News in General”?

There's politics related to everything, so we all look at news from our own political viewpoint. I really can't see how you can possibly separate them.

Frankly, from what I've seen on GN, anyone who was daft enough to start talking about frogs' legs on a political thread about France would deserve what they got.
On the other hand, isn't that just what the Daily Mail does? And what about irony? A political tool right hands.
Almost anything that matters in the modern world is complicated by its very nature and thus political. Dolphin deaths, yes quite....the environment, climate change, Japan, the Faroes, morality, animal rights, sentience and so on. Things don't happen in isolation.

Most news events are not political but are only made so by posters with a big axe to grind.

No. Impossible to split the two. Would lead to endless duplication and cross posting and prob even more quarrelling.

That doesn’t apply to me vegansrock. I criticise the government daily (although mostly within my own four walls, not on GN).

If we do get a News forum, and there's something on there that has a Political aspect, will we be allowed to mention it? For example, if the news story is that the NHS is under pressure, will we be allowed to say its because of government cuts?

Well, I'll be saying it anyway. I'm sure most will. Whether its in News, Politics, Health or Chat. Or even Gardening....

who are the 'political people'???

The people who know far more about politics than I could ever profess to do, but who obviously get irritated by the ingenues and dimwits posting, despite that group expressing the views of half the nation or more. I said I can understand the exasperation and all the sighs!
Others do just want to talk about what flashes across the news in a far less in depth manner like supporting local retailers or the lack of rural buses without the thread becoming over political. I haven't been on GN as long as some but the the two headers seemed to me to clash straightaway. Just my opinion.

Yes, it is political - it is Government-funded.

It is not 'everything' - but it is part of most things. Axes to grind are part of Party Politics, if you wish.

Are you also saying that having to crowdfund for essential health treatment is not political? I was very happy to contribute- and totally and absolutely will support any GNetter who finds themselves in the situation where this has become a necessity- but it is very political, tragically.

It would be nice uf they were separate, I find Politics a minefield.
