Storm Claudia

Yes, I saw photos of the pizza van on FB. Such a kind thing to do. It is incredible, isn't it.

Well done Luckygirl.

It's not just water, is it, it's the mud and whatever else comes with it.

There have been so many acts of kindness, including a pizza van driving over from a completely different area of the country to feed the rescue workers for free. It restores one's faith in human nature in this Trumpian world.

I am involved in running our community hall and we are receiving requests from groups that now have nowhere to meet for their activities. We are trying to accommodate all we can, including a wake whose venue has been flooded out - what a dreadful thing for them.

Well said 👏👏👏

So much has been damaged.
So many people helping.
So much to do.

And on Gransnet? A thread about how to pronounce Claudia.
You couldn't make it up.

As Baggs said on that thread
'When it's a bloody storm, who cares? '

The clean up has begun.

Oh, what a disaster, so sorry for the inhabitants of the town and area! It is amazing how quickly community can rally around those in need; I hope clean up and temporary housing is available for those that need it.

Oh - I have not seen that.

Not helped by stupid people putting comments on local Facebook pages and saying it isn't true and is all AI!

There are too many trolls around, their bridges must still be ok. 😡

Thank you. I am higher up thank goodness, but access is compromised by the road closures and the bridge that I have to go over to get to the surgery is virtually destroyed. The power of the water is extraordinary.
But local people have rallied round in a very heartening way.

Stay safe luckygirl.

At least the water in Monmouth is stationary - in the villages it is not! It is chaos. Bridges have been broken.

Oh dear, just horrendous, Luckygirl.

The water was rushing down the main street in Monmouth too.

Monmouth has been destroyed

Of course it hasn't.
Monmouth people are more resilient than that.

Do you live in Somerset, karmalady?

I thought that too. I love Monmouth, it’s a vibrant town as well as very pretty, and the locals will pull together to get through this - Waitrose will sorely missed for a few weeks though, hopefully M&S and Lidl were unscathed.

I think M&S looks as if it was flooded too, from the pictures.

This is my neighboring village.

Some photos from the main street in Monmouth

Hoping you're dry and ok, Luckygirl

The videos from the local villages are even worse than in Monmouth.
I am lucky that my village had some drainage works done a few years ago and things have vastly improved, but the next village along has a "brook" running through and it has burst its banks. There are torrents running through the streets. I have never seen it this bad before.

Dreadful floods round here. The river through the next village along burst its banks and is pouring through the streets and into the houses and pub.
The next town along is virtually closed - the high street is a river and coastguard have been out with boats rescuing people.
It is all a mess.

A major incident was declared in Monmouth with widespread flooding, including the main street.
Parts of the main A road through the Wye Valley are flooded, with trees down.

Hope you're ok, Luckygirl.

I saw a video this morning of Monmouth high street, it was like a river running through it , making it's way into shops...very frightening,,,,,hope everyone is safe

Dreadful few days here in SWWales. Towns cut off, rivers flooding. Sun is out today. Don’t know about Storm Claudia never making landfall in the UK. Something large and very wet did .

Like a rain bomb here too, JamesandJon33!

It's brighter today but not sunny.

Greenfinch

Certainly in my area concerns are raised because new houses are still being built on known flood plains. It is asking for trouble.

Oh, Greenfinch, I despair because plans have been passed for houses to be built on flood plans here too.

Who passed them? Labour and the Greens.
Who was against? The Tories.

Strange, that!
