same sex marriage-in church

Perhaps the church wedding honours the marriage ceremony. I think it does.

Well I’ve attended many weddings both civil and religious and have found that the relevant factors are the attitude and approach of the two people and the celebrant that honour the ceremony

I have been a witness for a Civil Partnership and for a same sex marriage but not in a church

You have had an amazingly busy life Ab. Quite puts me to shame.

If the couple getting married are committed Christians,then they would presumably want to have a religious ceremony.
If the couple are not why would they want a Church wedding , regardless of sexual orientation.
And to the original question , I guess the Churches are moving with the times , which is a good thing ,after all God sent Jesus to teach love & tolerance. ( But i never understood how encouraging 12 men to leave their families to live a nomadic lifestyle was in anyway responsible behaviour, all a bit hippyish to my way of thinking)

Not really Gonegirl it’s life in a market town in Welsh mountains, until recently the priest in the church i use to attend ‘until I moved to another part of town ‘ was openly gay and his partner was a priest in a town just over the border , no one had a problem with this. The Church runs the food bank, has a scheme where household things, furniture etc is stored and given to those who need things.

Think we must have volunteer groups for everything ?

Bridgeit you know they lived a nomadic lifestyle, you know the twelve apostles were all married men ?

The Bible does not say the twelve apostles were all married , it does not say they lived a nomadic life style , it does not say the twelve were present at every movement Christ made .

You've got to look at the bigger picture. There was a huge project being started here. And, let's face it, they all did a pretty good job. We're still talking about it now.

Bridgeit. Does it matter which century? You know the 12 men had families , the Bible does not say this. We know there were both men and women accompanying Christ, we know Salome the mother of James and John was one.

We know Christ was considered a Rabbi and this to Jews would be so important.

We need to remember we are discussing Jews and their way of life. A widowed mother would not be left to fend for herself, still isn’t, family is so important in the Jewish faith,

We could view ‘leave your families ‘ differently I agree, for me being part of a large extended family wouldn’t mean the same as someone who thinks of family as a nuclear family.

But doesn’t change the fact you are saying the 12 apostles had families . To me this is nit picking sorry Bridgeit, it is forgotten Christ was a Jew , born a Jew died a Jew, buried according to Jewish custom.

Wll, yes, you do appear a bit silly with that comment to be brutally honest. It hardly refelects any understanding of how the hisotrical Christian culture of western societies developed differently to some others largely because of their faith foundations.
