Do you celebrate the day?

❤️😍😊

Thank you

Wishing you well MissChateline 💐
Novovirus is a truly horrible thing. What a rotten end to your holiday.

MissChateline Sun 15-Feb-26 09:21:55

My Valentines Day was memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Suspect I’ve contracted norovirus from being in contact with a bunch of strangers who were passengers on a Nile cruise ship who were ill.. Our flight was delayed and we were all corralled in an airport transit lounge for several hours.
Details are certainly not needed but suffice to say it’s grim.

For no particular reason other than we are both early 70's (so who knows how many more we'll share), this year for Valentine's, we have been away on a wonderful break in North Wales. We had Bucks Fizz with our hotel breakfast then later had an Aftenoon Tea and back in our hotel room enjoyed a bottle of champagne (brought from home). During nearly 50 years of being together we have never before been as extravagant or in our own way, as romantic on February 14th. It will be a lovely memory for us to cherish. Beans on toast for the next few weeks grin

Each to their own as the saying goes life is short enjoy it now while you can.

We do celebrate Valentines night and it's our 30th anniversary this year. We had sparkling wine and a delicious home cooked candlelit dinner totally enjoyable.

Later we watched the rugby we had recorded while we ate our dessert.

Well, to be honest it is a load of old commercial cobblers, as are all the main seasonal events!
However, it is as good a time as any to buy myself some flowers and a cake or some chocolate, and treat my cat to some ham.

We celebrate in a very small way, with a small hand-made card that has been in use for 25 years plus! DH gave me a small box of chocolates. I gave the grandkids a small treat each.

Nothing over the top, but an acknowledgment of our love for one another, which sometimes may be taken for granted.

Today 18:04 ginny
I posted this on the other thread but thought it deserved to be here where more people seem to be posting. I would add it will be our 50 year anniversary in July.

DH and I don’t ‘do’ Valentine’s Day and never have. Mind you he has today spent 3 hours just hanging around whilst I was in an eye clinic. He got my bowl and utensils and porridge out ( as always) , at breakfast time. Told me to sit down after we got home and appeared with a cup of tea. He has just squeezed 5 lemons for pie filling because he knows I find it difficult and went back down to the local shops for a couple of items I forgot.
I reckon that’s enough without flowers and chocolates on one day as he does similar every day. Even on the days he drives me mad.

I sent my husband a text making fun of Valentine's Day. Other than that, we don't celebrate. Or, I will find a large purchase item and roll it all together for our anniversary and my birthday, and get that. They are all within 2 months of each other, so it is a good excuse to treat myself.

Thanks AGA much appreciated 💕

WhiteSwan63 Sat 14-Feb-26 16:02:02

We always make the effort. My DH got me flowers and is cooking me a lovely dinner. I got him a card and chocolates and made him a smoked salmon breakfast. The sun has come out today so that’s an extra bonus.

We don’t do cards or presents but usually take advantage of a Tesco or M&S meal deal.

Thank goodness we are all different!

I think we need as much as we can to cheer up our lives these days - and if that’s a little bit of ‘commercial tat’ so be it. It can’t hurt and I love that my DDs embrace all the various dates throughout the year. Both DGSs have enjoyed making cards at school to present today.

Yes, we celebrate Valentine's Day.

I agree we need as much cheer as possible.

We swap cards and I bought DH some rude 'Rosie Said' post it notes.

He bought me a lovely plant in a terrarium. Oooops.

Dylis Sat 14-Feb-26 11:38:40

We first exchanged Valentine's card a week after we met, 51 years ago. We gave each other identical cards which must have been an omen!
Yikes, writing that has made me feel very old.

rafichagran Sat 14-Feb-26 11:33:16

We exchange cards, and have a meal deal.

J52 Sat 14-Feb-26 11:22:47

We exchange cards, we do each other little good things throughout the year, so no big Valentine event.

Purplepixie Sat 14-Feb-26 10:28:22

This is a nice thread and thank you for opening it.

So sorry for those who have lost loved ones.

My lovely husband bought me a lovely card and he is cooking a roast dinner tonight. We will probably watch a film. At 73 there is still romance in the air. Hugs to all missing loved ones.

My mum still puts up her valentine cards. The very first card my dad sent to mum age 15 (remember when they were padded, diamantés & came in a box). Last one he ever sent her before he died.

There's already a thread about Valentine’s Day

Yes, there is, but that one is more to do about the over commercialisation of the day, whereas this thread is asking people if they celebrate it.

Yes always, today the usual cards and roses, asked my wife what she wanted to do later - Rugby, so it's the local club to watch 30 men roll around in the mud, she a fan, a lot of our friends will be there and I can have a beer.
Then this evening I'm cooking a Valentine supper

Did do with my darling husband. Every year cards and a nice meal together. Been crying at the memory this morning. Miss him so much.

Sending you a hug and 💐

I forgot that it's Valentine's day. Haven't celebrated for a long time now.
