We have a friend who has a recognisable face so you could say they are “a celebrity” due to their career.
We went to a small local restaurant with them and 2 of our children. It made for an uncomfortable evening with people constantly coming up and asking for photos or just talking about our friend in a loud voice. I would not want to be a “celebrity”.

The Duchess of Sussex and her father
(269 Posts)Read the latest in sad state of affairs between Meghan and her father today with sadness.
Her letter seemed so reasonable and made good points, her father has behaved in such an abominable way towards his daughter. Rather than pulling his head in after the stupid staged shots he was paid for, apologised and kept quiet till it all blew over he's dug his heels in and embarrassed her time and time again.
I'm not surprised her friends came out in support, even if she did direct it. Has the press no memory of how poor Diana and Fergie were berated and bullied? The idiot rags like the Daily Mail and the Sun are really going for it to make their money. I feel so sorry for her and hope it doesn't affect her pregnancy with all the stress.
I don't understand why the public seem to want her to reconcile with him. He obviously can't be trusted and she's wise to stay well clear, that side of the family is unhinged. Half brother with a DUI and domestic abuse, the other sister seems disturbed, her own daughter cut her off for goodness sakes and by the looks of it for good reason.
Harry was always my favourite, he's a bit older than my two children, but I always felt for him after Diana died. He was such a little mite behind the coffin.
They have this every day!!
Exactly GrannyGravy13. I'm not a Royalist though maybe I could be found guilty of that, as I prefer the Queen to anyone I could think of to be our head of state.
I enjoy the pomp and ceremony when I visit London and find myself watching all the Queen's horses and all the Queen's men progressing.
I have adult children and groups of friends who are the same age as William/Kate Harry/Meghan - I've seen them go through all the fun/horrors that go through growing up and eventually becoming responsible young people with children of their own. I wish them well and I'm relived none of them live in the spotlight of a media that loves to build people up, only to destroy them.
I don’t think the media can build up a member of the royal family, they are world famous from birth.
If we think of the members of the royal family who have carried out public duties over the years the majority have never hit the headlines and never sought the headlines.
I refer to it as ‘dancing with the devil’, once headlines are sought there is no turning back.
Of course they can Annie they can see who generates responses and interest and sells papers/ brings hits and then keep going!
Re headlines:
Edward VIII & Nazi links?
What about the "secret " Charles & Camilla phone conversations?
Princess Margaret's escapades in the Caribbean?
The toe sucking incident with Duchess of York
& endless disclosures about arguments. bulimia etc etc in the run up to C &D divorce
it happens all the time!
PECS
You cannot include Edward, he had abdicated, the public didn’t want him to, he had to be the baddy to make his brother the goodie, this wasn’t the press, it came from on high,
The Charles and Camilla tapes and the Diana and James Gilby tapes were sold to the press, there conversations were private.
Fergie ? We had the Papps then brought about because of Diana
The bulimia and arguements ? Fed to the press by Diana
Margaret ? Not a wise decade to have a toy boy and take him to her holiday Island
With the exception of Edward , that was political, Diana opened the door to the paps ,
What of Kate Kent, Alexandra ? They were very much in the public eye, carried out royal engagements, never a mucky headline .
Wasn't Edward a Nazi?
I think you have a poor grasp of how the media world works Annie !
Nazi sypathisers on Both sides of Lizzies family lILY65 ,Phils family all proudly marched in Nazi uniforms,Lizzies mother taught her daughters the Nazi salute ...all on photographic/film record .German to the core, even now when they celebrate christmas the german way on christmas eve .
nice lot.
Phillip’s sisters married Germans .
Phillip’s mother is buried on the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem, she was bestowed the title ‘Righteous Among Nations’ by Israel for saving the lives of Jews in the Holocaust.
‘They celebration Christmas on Christmas Eve, the German way ? what rubbish, we all have Christmas trees , this custom was brought to this country by German soldiers in the 19th century , so ‘ the German way’.
German to the core ? what a post so full of hate .
So, someone's ancestors were Nazis and the family have family traditions that are German. So what? There must be thousands of British families with a background like that.
Let the family that is without any embarrassing ancestors, or even embarrassing relations alive now, throw the first stone.
I thought Xmas trees were down to Prince Albert
We cannot choose our ancestors I agree and the sins of the fathers should not be a burden.. unless you choose to carry them on! However Philip does not have a reputation for being a sensitive sort of chap!
PECS I thought Christmas trees were brought here by Albert but seems there were German soldiers in hospital in this country and this was the first time they were brought in but their popularity started with Prince Albert.
Wow paddynan - your dislike of the monarchy is well known but, "German to the core". What a peculiar criticism.
"German to the core" - yet paddyann if I saw a Scottish person who was drunk and said "Scottish to the core" - you would, quite rightly, be up in arms.
Why is being German a crime in 2019,
Anne Frank, Schindler, and Brahms, Mozart, Mendelssohn,
Beethoven, all German to the core.
I think you might find some Dutch and Austrians in there...
You cannot help who your relatives are. Its not fair to lay all the blame on Meghan.
How many ordinary people have familes have problems and problem relatives?
The press are nasty because they make money out of other peoples difficulties. And they wash other peoples laundry in public. This issue is about the behaviour of Meghans father nor her.
Living in the the Royals must make life difficult for anyone. No peace and privacy as Diana found.
Oh dear! I am a republican but
I do not wish harm to members of royal family .
Their multi national family heritage is not why I am a republican. Being German should never be used as a derogatory term. That would be certainly be racist in my mind.
Being a Nazi is right to criticize. That is a choice though for many ordinary people, in Germany, pre & during WW2, resistance to the the prevailing force was hard and dealt with severely. Many non- Jewish Germans were also shot or incarcerated in death camps if they opposed the Nazi policies. Compliiance by fear.
Come on PECS, don't try and introduce reasoned rational debate about prejudice
If Megan and Harry hadn’t ignored the father things may have been so different.
Living a quiet life in Mexico, no knowledge of what was expected of him, his working life had been in Hollywood.
Megan and Harry had no problem flying to Africa for a holiday but no time to fly to Mexico. .
Megan and Harry had no problem flying to Africa for a holiday but no time to fly to Mexico.
We don't know that, though, do we Annie? The Press weren't told when Meghan flew out to see her Mum and best friend, and it was only revealed later on.
Sparklefizz. The fact is they did flying to Africa but didn’t fly to Mexico, that no one knew has nothing to do with it, they ignored the father .
Annie What I was saying is that we only know what appears in the media. Yes, they DID fly to Africa. Maybe they have secretly flown to Mexico without telling us??
But I am Team Meghan over her father, although I don't particularly warm to her, but her dad has been a nightmare from the start, telling Harry not to knock her about in as many words, putting the phone down on him, etc.
We didn't know until recently that she wrote him a letter last year, did we?
What I am saying is that we don't know how many times M or H have reached out to her dad because they haven't said.
