What about the dating part in Yours magazine? That's aimed at the older age group. I met my OH through Dateline - that was in the pre Internet days and you had to wait for your list of "matches" to arrive in the post.

I think what others have said about meeting people through what you enjoy doing is best. So, your trips seems like a good way. Don't forget to get contact details though Mick!

I have no experience of dating sites but I have female friends who have used them. One has been with a man she met through a dating site for three years. She used one of the newspaper's sites; perhaps these sites are a way of finding people with a common outlook on life rather than just being older? I think she felt relaxed with the man she met so the friendship developed at a rate she felt comfortable with. Anyway, good luck Mick. I'm sure there are lots of older ladies who would enjoy your company whether you find them on a dating site or through local clubs.

Look on the internet to see if there is a ‘Meet up Group’ in your area. They may have an age bracket but most don’t - people post things they are interested in going to and others join in.
DD organises one where she lives and has people of all ages. They meet sometimes in a bar and go for a meal or go to see a film etc. She has met some lovely people.

A very good friend met her partner through a walking group. I think a shared activity whatever it is, takes the pressure off the process of making friends or seeking companionship.
With no experience even secondhand of dating websites, it seems to me that friendship and shared interests offer a firmer foundation for a relationship, should one flourish.

I dint think you have been stupid Michael but do think perhaps doing pastimes you enjoy, perhaps joining the U3A where lots of activities are going on, is maybe a better option. Found U3A good way to try out lots of things that interested me and they do have holidays each year, I haven't been on one, but told they are good, days out etc. Also look on the notice board of your library, they usually have lots of different things going on.
