It's an odd thing when all you want is for your kids to be independent and happy, and then, when they have children and are independent and happy you feel left out! That's me anyway, I have one child and one grandchild, and am really happy for them and the life they are leading. Sometimes I get a little niggle of being left behind, which I know is nonsense.
Anyway on with my life I go!

Yes. I feel exactly the same Lynne. Silly isn't it. But perhaps understandable.

There are those on this forum who unfortunately, sit pouring over the keyboard for something they think is not polically correct and then post something unpleasant. Completely bypassing the relevant post, making hurtful and derogatory comments. The response should be ignore their posts for not get involved in anything that is not constructive. You can look for innuendo in anything. I certainly cannot wind myself up by being called a lady, not remotely patronising. As Shakespeare said, much ado about nothing. Thus forum should be to support each other and air things not jibe at each other. Lecture now over.

I have to agree, 'ladies' is patronising in the same way that 'gentlemen' is patronising. I hate being called a lady - I'm a woman and DH is certainly not a gentleman!

Out of order, tigger, there is a lot of rancour on GN these days and there are some short fuses too.

No Alea I am not out of order. Hiding behind a user name to abuse fellow posters is absolutely not on. This is about the way we treat one another it's about values respect and courtesy. We all need to be allowed to post without being ridiculed and can assure you I am not the only one who feels this way.

A more vulnerable person than me could be humiliated by some of the responses to posts and never have the confidence to post again.

This is not a football forum where abuse is rife, so let's stop this rancour now, it never used to like this. Furthermore, a short fuse is no excuse for some of the posts. We're supposed to be responsible grandparents, what kind of message are we sending out.
