cat lovers this will make you smile / haters go away

Beautiful story. I’m a dog lover predominantly but I have a soft spot for cats. Unfortunately the other half is allergic or we would be over run with all four legged friends. My dream would be to have a huge garden with no neighbours for miles and have 10 dogs + and cats hogging the sun and heat of a sunny conservatory and then the winter fire. My idea of heaven.

Awwww so cute, every cat is special in their own individual way.

Mine usually "welcomes" my son home, but if I have fed him first , he does not welcome him home because he has gone to bed on a full tum tum

My cat looked after this litter of kittens when their mother was killed by a badger when they were 2 weeks old. She obviously couldn’t feed them as she had no milk (and had to wear the red coat to stop them making her nipples sore) She kept them warm, clean and comforted whilst I fed them. We raised all 8 between us and I’m sure she helped save their lives.

We live on a farm and one day my DH found 2 very young kittens in a sack at the gate.
Our elderly (neutered) male house-cat took them under his wing and washed them and cleared up their poo, yes they were young enough to need stimulation to pass poo, and we fed them from a hypodermic needle holder (without the needle) with formula from the vet.
They are now elderly themselves and 'Dada-cat' is long gone. But I'll never forget his devotion.

Kittens are lovely but my late husband an I wanted a 12 year old cat as we were old and it was unfair to select a kitten that would outlive us. She was a lovely, affectionate cat and died when she was 17. Please remember older cats when rescuing one. They have so much love to bring one.Having said that I loved the kitten link.

Cats are lovely. Some humans less so. I'm sorry if it reads aggresive, I prefer to think defensive (I did not want to have people saying horrible things about cats or participating in a discussion about cats only to say unkind things as there can be a lot of unpleasantness on this site)

I have always had cats and my children were brought up to love and respect all animals. I usually get rescue cats if I can.

I knew about Grandpa Mason but love stories about kittens beingtaken over and mothered by unrelated cats. I've always had cats in my life and we are now down to my lovely blue Burmese boy, who is 19 1/2 and doing well.

We have a pet fountain thats good for the cat and dog. They love it!

I heard that kidney problems affect a lot of older cats but the fountain encourages them to drink. I mix extra water with their tuna and chicken and we avoid dry food where possible. I think the reason my 16 year old cat is healthy is because of good hydration and good food which I make.

One of the things I make is doggy loaf which has grated carrot and egg in apart from meat. I was worried because the cat was eating it but googled it and apparently it's quite good for them to have a bit. The cat has definitely had a better diet since I got the dog because he wants what she has.

Interesting, Biglouis about the cat who likes to drink from a tap. I have had cats who did this and my son's cat rushes outside when he hears the garden hose to drink from that. I wonder why.

Many cats prefer to drink running water rather than still water in a bowl. (Doesn't account for them slurping out of drains and puddles, I know!).
One of my cats haunted the side of the sink, catching drips from the tap and then a friend told me about Cat-it drinking fountains and the problem was solved.
I'd had no idea but this neat little device cycles water through a filter and forms a constantly flowing gentle supply of water at just the right height for a cat to drink.
Mine regarded it with grave suspicion for the first 24 hours but soon got the idea and have never looked back or sat by the tap since.😺

A cat came to us many years ago. Gradually we came to love her. She was fierce and once when a dog came in our yard, she jumped on his back and rode him down to the corner. He was screaming all the way. I guess she held on with her claws!

I think that’s right about playing fetch, Terribull. One of our kittens in particular brings me the same toy mouse over and over again. She never gets fed up. I do.

My neighbour’s cat brings her night-time presents. The most recent was a live mouse on her pillow - eek! 😱

Lovely post, although I'm not a cat person whenever at friends their cat always chooses to sit on my lap. I think he's trying to change me gradually it's working.

I`ve had several cats over my many years. Billy, the present occupant of my heart, is 15, he was 12 when I took him on, and he gives so much pleasure and love. He`s the first cat I`ve ever met who doesn`t miaow, the loudest noise he makes is his purring.
My daughter can`t bring her very large German Shepherd anymore though, the first time he and Billy met, Billy attacked him!

I have just read a post on the Doorbells thread about a cat who activates the front door camera to be let in rather than use the cat flap.

I enjoyed reading this cat related snippet from today's Times. Cats enjoy playing fetch, but only on their terms. A report by The University of Sussex, what a great job found cats would change the rules of the game to suit their mood. Sometimes bringing the object back halfway or gradually dropping it further and further away from their owner. Some cats will only fetch for particular people Contrary and selective that's why we love them, whereas dogs, (I love them too but not quite as much) are anybodies.

I don't agree Allira I actually prefer grown up cats, they are marginally less silly.

I've never owned a cat and am more of a dog person but who can resist a tiny kitten? Certainly not those older cats in the picture.

we used to have 2 cats who passed away when they were 19, and 15, what a huge gap they leave,,,now we have cat visitors who come for their breakfast, and supper... love them all
