Is it just the way the phrase is spoken and what they are really saying is "He had better do…"
- but its been shortened to
"He'd better do..."
and then the d and the b are too "difficult" to annunciate?

I keep seeing variations of this, instead of ‘He had better do…’
Is it just me?
Fellow pedants, please tell me I’m not the only one…
