Trollies

Trollies reminded me of follies, the plural of folly - not a strict analogy as folly has no 'e'. I had a running dispute with a friend about roofs/rooves for a while and it was irresolvable.

It’s not a word I use often, but having said it several times, I’m guilty of using ‘rooves’. Apparently it’s a disputed plural!

Plurals can vary. Hoof becomes hooves but roof becomes roofs not rooves unless you are using an old dictionary of American English.

If they don’t know the ‘ey’ rule, maybe they’re confused by the wet weather and the need for brollies.

Journey - journeys
Turkey - turkeys
Chimney - chimneys
Valley - valleys
Donkey - donkeys

Yep, that seems to hold true.

Plural of chimney is chimneys but plural of money is generally monies but can be moneys. Trolly is definitely trolleys in my opinion.

There was a series on Sky a few years ago called Trollied.
Perhaps Sky employees are confused.

Now, should that be Trolleyed?
Or is it Trollied?
Or did they invent the word?

By analogy
Dolly - dollies, buggy -buggies, nappy - nappies - all ending in “Y”
But words ending in “ey”
Trolley - trolleys

I would have thought, it’s ‘trolleys’
‘Trollies” could possibly be the plural of a female ‘troll’ ?

Trolleys, surely? Good grief. Proof reading doesn't exist.
