Furniture item with 'draws' - should be 'drawers'!

I have at last found some soulmates. I too prefer correct spelling but find myself having to bite my lip and pass by, as anyone who passes comment gets pilloried.

When you ignore spelling, punctuation and grammar then the whole meaning of the written words change. I have seen some posts or comments which make no sense at all and I really have no idea what the person is talking about. So yes, it's all important. Books could not be written without it.

Please don’t ever look on the website Gumtree. I have bought, sold and given away lots of stuff on Gumtree but reading the adverts is really bad for my blood pressure.
In the last week I attempted to buy an item. The seller continually offered times for collection which we agreed on but I had to remind him he needed to supply the address. I didn’t turn up which irritated him but despite me repeatedly telling him he hadn’t given me an address it took eight requests before it was supplied and I was able to collect. ?

During the last couple of days of the Tory leader /PM hoo-ha, I have been mildly irritated by hearing the expression “reckonise” more than a few times .
Shouting “recoGnise” at the tv made no difference, except I felt better!

I blame people who pronounce drawing as drawring, and draw as drore, for the mutation of drawers into draws / drores. They are responsible for widespread confusion among the population.

Not necessarily I read quite a lot. I am a poor speller. The little red lines that come up as I type are great little prompts. I now know that my problem is almost certainly dyslexia. I was never formally assessed but my sons were. I made sure they got help from people who really understood their problem. Their school teachers were pretty useless if I'm honest. I bridged the gap between their reading ages and maturity levels with lots of audio cds. They experienced Harry Potter and other books with their peers even if they couldn't manage the books.

I'm not sure if they can spell draw/drawer but they are all holding down well paid jobs and contributing through their taxes. They don't have to be well read to be intelligent and very capable.

I don't want you to think I'm being rude Caleo. I'm not. It's just that I see things differently.

I agree Kircubbin it's easier to pronounce a word once you have seen it written down. With obvious exceptions of course like Beauchamp and epitome.

I often think some people don't read which leads to mistakes. My ex never read a book and he used to talk about friends who had gone into hospital with a Connery.

I've lived all over England, and can't think of anywhere that pronounces 'drawers' as anything but 'draws'.
However 'withdrawal' can be pronounced as spelt or as 'withdrawl' depending on geography.

MerylStreep there is a clear auditory and orthographic difference between drawer and draw. Actually there's a grammatical and a semantic one too.
