Oh dear......have just seen another one.

New ladies top......not for us oldies then???

What a lovely start to the day! I want either a set of nester tables (nesting tables equally acceptable), so I can encourage them to breed. Here's a piece of dictation my father used to give to our German au pair students. The farmer sows seeds; his wife sews shirts. So they both ?

Haha, keep 'em coming.

There are lots of dinning tables for sale, too.

How about 'putting him/her on a pedder stool'? The mind boggles !

Perhaps not everyone has had the advantages from which you have benefited regarding education, perhaps these people you are disparaging can do wonderful things like drawing, painting, singing, dancing, cooking baking etc. Who do you think you are?

Get a life, we all make mistakes, or don’t you lot.

The one that is likely to make steam issue forth from my lugholes is not so much written, but spoken: Everythink

skweek1. Lol! He wouldn't get away with that today, the feminists would be on him straight away.
As always, a few mean spirited people who have to turn a light hearted thread into a platform for being unpleasant and rude!

Fair points mabon1 and sheilasue - feel suitably chastened now ?

Oh come off it sheilasue and mabon1, this is Pedants’ Corner.
But in answer to your question - well no, not like chester draws, peddler stool, neckless etc

Katek- thank you for the Steve Hughes Youtube clip. I loved it. I then spent a good half hour looking up his other clips. Well I didn't want to do the ironing anyway.

Perhaps the worst spelling mistake I came across was a teacher, writing about a pupil in her class, saying the child's spelling was abismal (sic).

Agree 100% Maw. Not commenting on any particular individual only the increase in poor spelling/listening skills. Perhaps Schonell’s Essential Spelling List should be brought back

It is not just poor spelling or dyslexia though, which is not something to mock.
It is concern over ignorance of what the words actually are, or what the sentence structure is, especially when you see would of, should of.
So OF is used where it has no place, but omitted where it is needed.
I understand that language evolves, but here is it losing any meaning.
Chester I can almost understand, but Nester?
If you advertise something for sale it should be as described. I worry.

We often get dinning tables advertised on our FreeCycle pages - I wonder just how noisy they are.

as a retired head teacher i feel my 40 years in teaching didn't reach the parts i thought/ hoped it had....

or perhaps people don't care as much as i do about correct grammar...

so irritating though...

I used to be responsible for the upkeep for the listed building I worked in. (By getting suitable works carried out, not personally I hasten to add)!
My boss used to refer to me as the 'ancient building specialist'!

There's a large poster outside a church hall I drive past. It advertises a 'huge children's clothing sale'. Well I read in the papers that there are more obese children about so it's good to see that church is helping local families stay decent.

jane10.

Maybe those huge children would have benefited from the ‘swiming lessons’ recently offered at our local leisure centre!
I love this thread - I am often reprimanded for my pedantry, but we gotta ava laff, innit?

From our local selling page on FB

"Childs desk and stall "
I'm sure you'll work out that should be stool.

I have dyslexia and can't spell for toffee (or any other sweet you care to mention ) but I do try checking first with words I am not sure about. Spell checks are really helpful (as long as you have some idea of what the word should look like) .
I find this thread amusing. I don't feel as though anyone is making fun of me (or the other members of my family with dyslexia) just commenting on some funny errors.?

Exactly Doodle would that more posters had a sense of humour.

Thanks for a great laugh. I needed cheering up, as I have just had my housekeeping money nicked!

What about a Hambag. Is it just for ham. I had to try and explain that to my Granddaughter.
