Army Chef Jailed

The below is actually why some of us fear the extreme right:

Source Mirror Online

“ 'Racist' British Army soldier with 'cannon' had horrific plans for UK, court hears
British Army chef Mark Broadhurst, 28, had a terrifying array of weaponry including explosives and a court has heard he had been communicating with now convicted terrorists for nearly two years.

Mr Justice Hilliard jailed him for 46 months after the soldier admitted possessing explosives and a firearms offence. At a previous hearing, Broadhurst denied the offences were terror-related, but the judge found that he was trying to impress other members of extreme right-wing groups and encourage them in their violent, racist and anti-authority ideology.

Matthew Donkin KC, prosecuting, said most of the activity surrounding the offending happened before he joined the army. Counter terror police became aware of Broadhurst while carrying out investigations on other members of extreme right-wing groups and saw his messages on two online forums.

Mr Donkin said: "The things he was posting were hateful, racist, aggressive and they demonstrated clear, extreme right-wing beliefs and views."

The messages demonstrated a hatred of “black, Asian, Muslim and Jewish people”, the prosecution said. He made references to anarchy, the end of society and his preparedness to bring this about, the Crown said. Broadhurst had shared the online order he made for the ingredients to make gunpowder.“

Nevertheless the number and percentage of terrorist attacks and convictions in the UK are significantly higher for Islamist extremists than for extreme right-wing activists

Except that Islamic extremists share several social and cultural traits with far-right movements. They are two sides of the same coin.

The point of this Thread is that the far right threat is said to be rising.

Maremia

Especially if the threat from the far right is on the rise.

I think that’s my entire point really.

The rise (and all evidence points to increases), of “home grown” far right terrorist filled with hate for almost everyone.

It’s doesn’t make Muslim extremism any better or worse or less worrying.

But we should be worried about the increase in far right hatred which is now crossing the line into terrorism.

Maremia Thu 15-Oct-26 21:11:37

Especially if the threat from the far right is on the rise.

MG55 Thu 15-Oct-26 21:11:35

Shocking case. Thank you you Cossy for alerting us to this.

Maremia Thu 15-Oct-26 21:10:53

Every act of terror matters.

Maremia Thu 15-Oct-26 21:09:29

Absolutely agree Casdon.

Casdon Thu 15-Oct-26 20:23:20

Why would our concern about terrorism be purely about deaths, that makes no sense to me. One event that killed 100 people is no more serious than ten plots to kill that were discovered before they came to fruition, because the more plots there are, ultimately the more chance of death and destruction there is.

I believe Oreo’s point was that he is in the minority and statistics show we have far more to fear from Muslim extremists

We certainly do.

Oreo Thu 15-Oct-26 20:11:48

Of course there are other crimes as well as murder and far right prisoners will be in jail for plots/ injuries/ and being aggressive agitators as well as a few who have killed.
But if it’s deaths we are more concerned about then it’s Muslim extremists all the way for sheer numbers.

Oreo Thu 15-Oct-26 20:08:21

That’s what I read Casdon and 94% deaths from Muslim extremists is a very high number.

Maremia Thu 15-Oct-26 20:04:33

As much as that?
Not a minimal threat then.

Casdon Thu 15-Oct-26 19:57:07

A fuller picture:
Key breakdown figures from official UK Home Office, Parliament, and Counter Terrorism Policing data include:

• Prison Population (as of March 2025): 62% of prisoners in custody for terrorism-related offences declared themselves as Muslim (166 out of 266 prisoners), while 20% were Christian and others belonged to other or no religion/extreme right-wing views.

• Terrorism Caseloads & Attacks: According to government CONTEST and security reporting, Islamic or Islamist-related terrorism has historically represented about 67% of attacks since 2018 and roughly 75% of MI5's operational caseload.

• Terror Murders: Official assessments indicate that Islamist-motivated attacks have accounted for approximately 94% of all fatal terror-related murders in the UK over the past 25 years.

• Other Ideologies: The remaining share of UK terrorism investigations, arrests, and prison populations involves Extreme Right-Wing Terrorism (ERWT, such as white supremacists and neo-Nazis, making up roughly 30% of current terror prisoners) and Northern Ireland-related or other non-religious/single-issue extremisms.

About 30% of terrorists in prison are extreme right wing terrorists.

Maremia Thu 15-Oct-26 19:55:08

And the Thread is about the also very real threat from far right extremists, which we should not ignore.

sundowngirl Thu 15-Oct-26 19:46:52

I believe Oreo’s point was that he is in the minority and statistics show we have far more to fear from Muslim extremists

Oreo Thu 15-Oct-26 19:44:55

Especially when the digression shows that 94% of terrorists and the deaths they cause are not far right.
All terrorism has to be rooted out but so far deaths caused by far right people are minimal.

Maremia Thu 15-Oct-26 19:40:17

Yes, and that is the point of this Thread, although of course some GNs may chose to digress, which of course is always acceptable.

Oreo Thu 15-Oct-26 19:33:46

Of course he was far right, it says so in the OP

Maremia Thu 15-Oct-26 19:22:46

He was threatening 'Black, Asian, Muslim and Jewish people' so not likely to be a Muslim extremist.
Sounds like he is a far right racist.

Oreo Thu 15-Oct-26 16:43:48

Yes, just awful but 94% of terror related deaths over the last 25 years came from Muslim extremists.
Just to keep that fact in mind.

Cossy Thu 15-Oct-26 16:38:22

I agree with both of you, AGAA4 and Fallingstar

Sad and scary times

Fallingstar Thu 15-Oct-26 13:58:04

This is shocking but predictable, with far right voices fuelling people’s prejudices and hatred, this person will not be alone, there will be others whom the authorities are not aware of.
And I agree AGAA4 we are entering scary times with extreme groups believing they have the right to kill others because they have dehumanised them so much that they don’t see their lives as being important.
And the undercover conversations we heard on the news with certain members of Reform plays into this

AGAA4 Thu 15-Oct-26 13:49:11

We do need to fear them as they perpetrate the most horrendous acts of violence on the innocent.

We seem to be moving towards a more violent society. People who are willing to kill in the name of their cause.

I fear for minority groups and everyone as some attacks aren't targeted at a particular group of people.
