Nigel Farage has won

The reason people don't like Farage or want him as an MP anywhere is because of his association with George Cottrell convicted of fraud in the US and giving money to reform.

Farage is also being investigated for the 5 million from Harborne who wants his crypto currency business in the UK.
If people want an MP who associates with known criminals then they are likely to get these foreign backers of Reform and Farage here in the UK.

But where has that got him? What gain? Looked bizarre, will be remembered as Bin face election not the 1000 votes:

to many unnecessary sending of public money on the by-election £250,000 - and still faces the full investigation.

Exactly FGT.
It is obviously who the people of Clacton want, whatever anyone else thinks, you can't argue with that.
People obviously want change, unless you think the people of Clacton are not of sound mind.

I don't think the people in Clacton who supported him the first time round were ever really likely to desert him, in spite of the media attention over the donation. It might even have been that very media attention that won him the extra votes.

Whether those who voted for him want 'change' is debatable, some might, but Clacton has struggling businesses and a seasonal holiday economy, as well as it being one of the most economically 'challenged' constituencies in the UK. The people of Clacton - being of sound mind recognise that they need urgent representation in Parliament. It's a community pretty desperate for economic regeneration, and based on NF's pitch when he first arrived - " Clacton is ignored, but my high profile will force the government to put you on the map." - they were hardly likely to select a novelty party and they had no other major party to choose from.

I think the resounding success narrative fails; local business owners and residents have expressed frustration that NF is rarely in Clacton; he mentioned his constituency only 4 times in Parliament, but flew to the US to support Trump 8 times. Small businesses, shopkeepers, etc, have openly complained that he treats Clacton as a media-backdrop rather than doing the hard slog of an MP.

But what choice did they have? He was, basically, their only choice.

Of course this was always a comedy election. Farage throwing his toys out of the pram for no good reason. He won’t even talk to Nick Ferrari.

I will explain why this thread has brightened my morning. It has amused me, not in a happy way, but I could have predicted the reactions beforehand.

I have read all the previous threads in the Clacton by-election, on the whole they were pro Count Bin Face winning.

Now we are at peak but but but … denigrating the electorate of Clacton, and of course the credibility of Reform as a party.

I am totally neutral in this however, I do not like to see voters being told they are poor, they deserved who they voted for ad infinitim and not in a nice manner.

There is something rather odd about established parties refusing to contest Clacton and then commentators diminishing Reform’s victory because there was little opposition.

You cannot refuse to enter the ring and then complain that the winner had an easy fight.

Love him or loathe him, they still haven’t discovered how to make the bloody man give up - because he will not give up.

Oh they know that they are poor - that is why they voted for Farage.

No other party has answered their needs.

The fact that Farage definitely won’t is neither here nor there.

They simply want their lives to change.

Wanting CB to win is simply not the same as expecting him to win. Mostly I think we just hoped he got a good result which he did. There’s a qualitative difference between denigrating Reform and criticising the voters of Clacton. The former is justified, the e latter not so but there’s understandable exasperation But meanwhile carry on with your brightened morning. Fancy it taking this topic to do that. Meanwhile and you can save this for 3 years time I know beyond doubt that NF will never be PM and he may not even be an MP in a few months time.

Why?

Tuliptree you seem to have missed that I am not a Reform supporter.

I doubt that NF will be PM, but and it is a very big but, if he is the blame should be laid firmly at the feet of the main parties who have not listened to the concerns of the electorate.

Andy Burnham seems to be listening at the moment, will be interesting to see if this continues once he gets caught up in the Westminster bubble when parliament returns after summer recess.

I don’t think there’s was any question of Farage losing.

Now back to square one, investigation into both Farage and Reform will continue, Farage will continue with his rhetoric.

The people of Clacton will have zero changes.
