Trump tears peace hopes into pieces.
(89 Posts)Those were headline in the Metro newspaper, but it just about sums up Trumps latest -
peace ends, bomb to bits, Iran responds, Straits closed, Trump now states he is going to take Greenland, Trump smashes at NATO.
This is my personal view, and I don't want it to distract from other discussions about what is happening in the Middle East and Iran areas
but for me a world without Trump who can turn his defence department into a war cabinet, and consistently talks war war not jaw jaw is forcing the world to all spend more on defence until we are bristling with armaments.
and here we are sweltering in high temperatures with news of dying species and melting ice all over the world, climate change, and cutting our spending on that - instead of stuff like cheap solar panels and even more investments in those industries and alternatives to car use.
Here's the front page I alluded to, I'm sure someone with a more active brain than me today can find more a more succinct statement on the picture as regards Trump and Iran.

Where’s Imaround when we need her?
Hope all is ok with her
I am here watching his stupid antics every day. His 250th celebration was a flop and now we are just waiting until November.
116 days until the election. Tik tok.

I’ll pm her, we had a period of less chat on Trump. I Zoom on Quaker groups regularly with people from the US, so get bits and bobs.
Problems of the democrats getting themselves together nationally, work in progress, as it goodbye to the old guard and lots of different approaches, but there is a lot of interest in the pretty lefty Mayor of New York. (In mobile so can’t check his name)

A powerful and dangerous man. Not a good mix. To describe the Iranian people as scum is insulting in the extreme.
He was addressing those remarks to Iranian leadership, not the Iranian people.
And they really are scum too.

Yes, but on the world stage, as a statesman, you can make the point without using the terminology of the internet - the lowest common denominator, the language used 'down the pub'... or bars in New York. 'Murderous, barbaric regime' is equally effective, maybe even more so. He sounds so illiterate.
Unfortunately, the regime has its supporters among the Iranian people, so it's not going to go down well.
If there is ever going to be any kind of 'peace deal' between the two nations, using the language of the gutter won't help. It's also so damned immature. He sounds more like an American Alf Garnett than a POTUS.
Trump will insist on the pot calling the kettle wont he.
I agree Cossy. For the president of the USA to use words like scum against Iran is totally unacceptable and shows he will never be a statesman.
However vile the Iran regime is Trump has shown himself to be lacking in the ability to condemn without using abuse.
Angela Rayner was lambasted on here for using the word scum and she admits to being 'a gobby northerner".
Trump thinks he is so above others and yet he uses abusive language frequently.

Still for his supporters he can do no wrong. I talk to family in USA and they think other world leaders should be more like Donald. Heaven help us.
Did he really say " The Islamic Republic of Japan" ?Apparently, yes.
And he mixed up the names of Putin and Zelenski, didn't he (though later came up with some cock and bull story to try to cover that one up)?
Amongst other things.
I believe it was Biden that mixed up the names of Putin and Zelensky (though Trump is just as bad!)
I think, respectfully, we need to agree to disagree Oreo on what is and isn’t appropriate action and language aimed at Iran.
Wars such as these affect normal innocent citizens, who often end up being displaced from their own countries, where will they go? These wars affect many worldwide in many ways and I’m afraid I just don’t think it’s the answer.
I always find it interesting that those countries that also have despot regimes, yet have nothing the rest of the world want or a desire to deprive that country of things ie nuclear capability, are left to continue to commit genocide or otherwise torture their own citizens without batting an eyelid.
Each of us will have our own views, we need to accept gracefully that others may not agree with us.

Iran are unbelievably murderous to their own people, beatings and summary executions daily. On top of that, bank rolling the many murderous terrorist groups such as hezbollah and hamas which carry out atrocities all over the world as well as the Middle East. The leaders call themselves religious, what a terrible joke that is, so yes they certainly are scum.
I agree about the Iranian regime, Trump isn't wrong about them. It's a pity the regime is still in power.

I agree, but I really don’t think it’s in any appropriate to use this kind of language in a public setting as Trump feels it’s OK to do.
There’s plenty of corrupt and plain evil leaders in this world, but in the professional world there’s betters ways of showing competent than using poor language.
How many wars has Iran started?
Answer - none in the last 200 years. How does that square with the assertion that Iran is one of the most dangerous regimes?
This war was started at Netanyahu’s insistence - for his own nefarious reasons and something that Trump now bitterly regrets.
It isn’t about helping the citizens of Iran really, it’s about neutralisation of the armed power of Iran in many ways including nuclear. The regime there is an abomination and half the population like what they do.

They are utterly appalling (the leaders) but how does this war, Trump started with Netunyahu, help those poor citizens?

Well, takes scum to know scum.
Wonder what the Pope, an American, truly thinks of the most militarily powerful country on the planet being in the grip of the scummiest leader on the planet?
What a stupid and mediocre individual he is. He has no other recourse over Iran than negotiate a peace plan, which the utter fool had in Obama’s plan.
Instead he continues to bomb and commit war crime after war crime.
To what effect?

As Sarnia says, the POTUS is powerful and dangerous but he is also ignorant, thin skinned and arrogant. To sit next to Mark Rutte and simply list all the countries he dislikes and the politicians he "gets along with", then call Iran "scum" was pathetic. It demonstrates that he has never grown up and is still that spoilt toddler who always got his own way and probably was the one none of the other kids wanted to play with. He tries to make up for his own inadequacies by using insults and threats.
He sees Greenland and wants it like a child who wants to steal another child's toy. Not because he needs it but because they've got something he doesn't have.
I never wish ill on anyone but he is the exception because his behaviour is having a devastating impact on the whole world.

Trump is Trump, what more can anyone say, but he isn’t always wrong.
Europe does need to spend more on defence, especially us in the UK, as we have recently seen our Naval capabilities are woeful.
With countries like Iran and Russia the West needs to be bristling with armaments!

If as an author you were going to write a fiction about a pathological narcissist, ill-educated in facts, clearly emotionally retarded POTUS with a criminal conviction - who is often barely able to string a short sentence togeher...
... you'd be told the plot-line was too far fetched.
Yet, here we are.
I'm watching a tv series on Paramount Plus called The Oval. It's a story about a new US president and his family. It's not so much about politics but the internal goings on about the first family. It makes me wonder how much of the story is based on real facts. Judging by Trump I could believe some of the storylines.
Well worth a watch.
I believe GrannyGravyy is correct, he has information on many powerful people and uses it.
He and his family are increasing their wealth due to his actions during his presidency
I still feel like we are in a Bond movie with the most powerful man in the world as an evil maniac
