Sympathy for Harry anyone?

Is there anyone left who has any sympathy for H&M after the recent pantomime? I’ve been in the ‘against’ camp since the birth of Archie when they deliberately misled the press and public with delayed announcements and made it clear they were doing things their way. Since then….well. I have a close friend who still thinks the sun shines out of Harry’s backside, he’s had a terrible upbringing and life, he should get an apology….I’m avoiding contact with her this week as I know she’ll have another excuse about him.

Thats great - my memory didn't serve me accurately- Im always happy to be corrected on royal facts- I'm not an expert!

Being picky, but Anne was born in August 1950, Andrew in February 1960.

So she was actually 9.5 when her younger brother was born, taking her place as the ‘spare’.

You may well be right Lathyrus, quite possible I misunderstood.

In that case, Anne was 8 when Andrew was born- so unless QE had firmly decided she was never going to have more children, unlikely to have had a keen, real awareness of her position between birth and 8 years old? Andrew was born and the apple of his mother's eye and *always had the awareness as he grew older, up until Charles had William at 33 years old, that he was the "spare" .

Princess Anne has always been in line of succession and is currently 18th in line. But she has never been a 'spare".

Anne was born third in line at birth, (Charles and Princess M before her as she was not male) but was moved down further when Andrew and then Edward were born. Rules of male promogeniture applied at the time- updated by Succession to the Crown Act 2013 giving equal rights to both genders.

Anne has never been second in line to the throne- thus never been a spare at any time in the way Harry and Princess Margaret experienced.

Margaret was only second in line whilst her father was on the throne and Elizabeth had no children.

When Elizabeth had children they took precedence in line of succession over Margaret. The line of succession was Elizabeth, Charles, Anne whilst King George lived. When Elizabeth came to the throne, at that point Anne became second in line after Charles. Margaret then became third. That position didn’t change until Andrew was born.

So Anne was second in line from February 1952 to February 1960.

I don’t suppose she ever considered she would inherit the throne. Charles was a strong and healthy child and as time as shown she was content to make her own life without anger or envy at her brother.

Thank you LemonJam I didn't know that!

Ah, thanks, forgot Princess Margaret!

Anne was the 'spare' for 10 years, I think. Andrew was born in 1960 and she was born in 1950.

I m remembering a photo of lilibet which was said to be a friend s child. And all the stories about whether the bump was real.
Hard to know what to believe.
But I have no sympathy for them after that hurtful interview and the book.
As someone has said Anne was also a spare but has lived her life with dignity and is the hardest working royal. She protected her children from the press but didn’t hide them away and make a big drama out of it.

Actually Anne was never the “Spare”, Andrew was!

Margaret was the Spare, Harry is the Spare. All three Spares are/were troubled and troublesome!

Pretty sure Anne was 2nd in line for 8 years

None whatsoever. After the grief he caused his dying grandfather and the Queen who was in her final years he deserves all he gets.

And yet, all the photos of him ‘in action’ show him with spotlessly clean uniform and as one ex serviceman said his weapons were not in the correct place. I don’t believe he was in the thick of it.*

I have it on apparently good authority that he had two troops of SAS guarding him at all times. Of course he was never in the thick of it...what a coup for the enemy were he killed!

After what the pair did and said, there's no going back. You cannot trust a liar never mind a pair, now it’s emotional blackmail over the children. They are their currency they think. Better they don’t meet. They knew the consequences. They will cause mayhem. Bet they don’t attempt to reconcile with Megans father he is a father who hasn't seen his grandchildren too, forgot he hasn't anything to offer has he?

Whitewavemark2 Tue 07-Jul-26 20:07:45

It seems that the complainants were badly advised by their lawyers imo, looking at the judges remarks.

I have little doubt of the Mails complicity.

Margaret never bretrayed her sister
George 6 betrayed his brother ? No
Did Andrew write books about his brother?

Good grief, Annie, surely you don’t believe Harry’s deeds are worse than Andrew’s, book or no book.

That book and that interview were big big mistakes!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 07-Jul-26 19:57:04

Prince Harry went “beyond giving factual evidence” in the case, the judge said.”
Nothing new there then…

Quick call home, to tell Meg to fire up the jam boilers.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Tue 07-Jul-26 19:47:56

Well Harry has lost £50million. Deep inside if honest to himself he surely must have worried his lies about events would catch him out? Seems daft to me he ever believed he had a case.

Some rich barristers will have trousered a lot of money.

Padstow13 Tue 07-Jul-26 18:56:30

Harry has a season ticket for the court. Has he nothing better to do with his time, and money?

Ordinary folks are supposed to put up or shut up if anything slanderous or libellous is aimed at them. A lack of piles of cash to throw at regiments of lawyers prevents us from seeking justice.

Harry and Co. can buy the justice they favour. But not always, it seems........

A proven liar under oath; how can anyone ever believe anything he says again.

Indeed.

He and his feelings have been indulged by Charles for so long, he seriously expected a judge to do likewise.

Oreo Tue 07-Jul-26 18:48:54

Harry and Meg will be fuming tonight having to pay an absolute fortune and losing the case.I hope all the litigants will club together and pay Doreen Lawrence’s share.

Actually, Princess Anne was the Spare until Andrew was born in 1960.

Yes of course, not not afterwards

Harry is a very rich person, he decided with his wife to leave his family. I have no sympathy for either of them. He can pay for his family’s security not the poor UK tax payer.

I never liked Meghan from the time she showed the engagement ring off. When I mentioned that she was looking like the cat that got the cream, as she walked down the aisle before the wedding service, I was shouted down so much that I stopped posting on here for a while.

Charlotte is the ‘spare’ of the future and I hope she can live a free life on the lines of her Aunt.

Things will be very different for Charlotte than Harry, plus there’s two spares!

EllieAnne Tue 07-Jul-26 18:28:40

Thank you jaberwok for agreeing with me.
