What's the difference between taking in a Ukrainian family, ie women and children to taking in a Somali family?
It won’t just be women and children tho will it?
I believe mainly from Eritrea and Sudan.
Be interesting to see how many migrant supporters on here offer to take them into their homes!
If it’s the same as Ukrainian scheme you will get paid about £380 a month.
Getting ready for the usual excuses - haven’t got a spare room, can’t afford it, I live in a flat, I am too old, my second cousin twice removed lives with me etc etc. 🤣

It’s def twaddle I agree.
And I will be surprised if this idea gets off the ground in any meaningful numbers.

Not just but will include women and children. The scheme is said to be similar in to the Ukraine scheme thus what is the difference in posters minds? My question was in response to:
Also there is no way a comparison of taking in a family from Ukrainian, women and children while the men are fighting can be the same as a young man coming to live in your home from one of these countries mentioned
Taking in a family of any nationality is different to taking in a single young man. the scheme prosed is not directed solo to young men at all. My question remains- what is the difference of taking in a family from Ukraine to taking in a Somalian family?

The measure of success of the proposed scheme will not specifically be how many Gransnet posters put themselves forward to offer residence in their own homes.
Generally Gransnet posters may be of an older demographic, may be more risk averse as a result, may have health issues, may be on an NHS waiting list for surgery, more likely to live alone, more likely not be working, so more likely have reduced income so may not be able to afford the additional costs to their household by taking a refugee into their home.
Many Granset posters may offer support for refugees, in a different way via local volunteer activity- e.g. helping them speak English, cookery lessons for typical English dishes etc to demonstrate active support for refugees.
One scheme is not exclusive of other schemes.
The measure of whether a Gransnet views this scheme as positive is not measured by their willingness to be first on the list to offer. residence in their own homes and be judged poorly by other posters if they do not do so. Neither does any Granset poster need to justify their choice on this matter.
The Government, society and individuals choose how they behave towards asylum seekers and refugees. There is a continuum from one end- tolerance, compassion, empathy and active support and voting for a government at a GE that wishes to meet the Uk's legal obligations as set out in the 1951 Human Convention. The opposite end of the spectrum features hatred, antipathy a 'get them all out and/or stopping them coming in the first place' rhetoric and voting for a party at the next GE that is supportive of that rhetoric and a variety of views in between the 2 ends of the continuum. We get policy in line with what we vote for and currently the LP is in government and this is their proposed scheme.
Good post Lemonjam
Primrose53 so it's ok for the Turkish police to beat people with iron bars and for them to get frostbite and lose limbs. You say 'Different cultures behave differently. They should stay where they are' Surely you can't mean that? ??
Thousands of British people sleeping in vans, cars, tents, sofa surfing and ironing the streets. Thousands of British people waiting for local authority housing. Our country is borrowing money for the boat people to keep them housed and fed. So we ignore our homeless, borrow more money, take in refugees and look after them as priority? This is financial suicide for our country which will send it towards bankruptcy. British people born here should be first. Once they are housed they will be in a better position to get a job and contribute to our economy.
Sleeping on the streets not ironing lolol

👏👏👏
Because erm they fought for our country greyfur!
As someone upthread explained, an out of the way setting, with no medical or back up facilities, would not be conducive to the mental health improvement of any homeless veterans.

It’s like painting by numbers on here sometimes. Just look at the evidence.

Our Government has ACCELERATED the vetting process, in the short time it has been in power.
Just because it's not been headlining in The Mail or the Telegraph or GB News does not mean it has not been happening.
That is 'doing something'.
How do you know they have ACCELERATED IT?

Are you genuinely unaware of how small and basic many people's homes are, even in this day and age? Please do not imply that most people's 'excuses' as you call them, are not genuine. Some will be, no doubt, but that does not excuse this insulting blanket accusation.
It’s also a misnomer to suggest the proposed scheme is for people from specific countries, because it isn’t.
It is not a matter of helping either our own poor or refugees. They can be done at the same time. Life is always about compromise. We are lucky to have been born in a fairly rich country with the NHS and free from war. A lot of people are not so fortunate.
Most people in many countries of the world couldn't think of casually spending £3 on a nice latte or cuppa in a cafe as many except here. Thats a family meal for a whole day or even 2 days. If they eat at all.
We've got used to a level of lifestyle here in our baby booming years.

Come on ….. I’ve watched loads of interviews on TV and never yet seen a person saying they will take any migrants in. all we hear are excuses.
Primrose nearly 74,000 people offered to house Ukranian guests. Do you not know at least one of those folk?
How do I know that the Labour government ACCELERATED the rate of asylum vetting?
Simple.
I read more than just the right wing versions of MSM.
