Why do women help their men in these heinous crimes?

Chocolatelovinggran Mon 22-Jun-26 17:43:00

GrannyGravy, what on earth can his wife have been thinking?
I knew of a case where a clergyman was found guilty of molesting boys in his garden shed.
He had a previous conviction for such an offense, for which he had served time in prison.
At this trial, his wife and daughters were in court every day, protesting his innocence.
He was found guilty and was awarded a further custodial sentence.

I read that this afternoon GG13 and the facts of the case were very disturbing. I cannot imagine any wife staying with such a man nor not reporting him to the police. Those poor children.

Sarnia Mon 22-Jun-26 17:51:17

His wife has been deemed not fit to stand trial. I sincerely hope this isn't some excuse she is hiding behind and has a genuine health issue for basically, getting away with it. Otherwise, it is a slap in the face for their victims.

Maremia Mon 22-Jun-26 18:05:04

In this sad case, I vaguely remember that the wife was also implicated GG13.

Fallingstar Mon 22-Jun-26 18:11:15

The wife sounds as bad, imho she should be charged with aiding a paedophile. Not sure if this is already the case but if not it should be.
What a ghastly couple.

Casdon Mon 22-Jun-26 18:13:00

It’s horrible. He deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison. So many people in positions of power seem to lead double lives.

butterandjam Mon 22-Jun-26 18:47:27

Its not unknown for a woman subjected to sexual abuse, to become totally coerced and controlled by the same or a new abuser. For sex abusers to use threats of worse humiliation and punishment, to enforce silence or compliance.

What a ghastly couple.

She is too mentally ill to face a court trial on the charge of aiding and abetting his sexual abuse of two children.

Instead there was a "trial of facts" which confirmed her "aiding and abetting" did happen.

Basgetti Mon 22-Jun-26 23:51:59

I don’t understand why there hasn’t been more coverage and public outrage about this despicable couple.

vegansrock Tue 23-Jun-26 03:45:42

Will the Belfast rioters be out over this? Thought not.

Farmor15 Tue 23-Jun-26 09:07:49

There has been extensive coverage of the trial and verdict of Jeffrey Donaldson in the media in Ireland (North and South). Probably because he was a prominent politician so well known here, but not in UK.
I followed the trial and was interested that the only person to give evidence in his defence was himself!

What would be the point? The man has been brought to justice, found guilty of his crimes and sentenced accordingly.

I don't condone the Belfast riots BTW.

Magenta8 Tue 23-Jun-26 09:17:23

Actually he will not be sentenced until September but the judge intimated that he will face "a lengthy sentence."

I agree, those poor children and I do hope they receive all the help they need to move forward.

As for his wife, there are no words.

Cossy Tue 23-Jun-26 09:37:18

Just read the case details and details of him and his wife. A very odd and deviant pair and of course these “children” are now two adult women, much disturbed.

Awful.

welbeck Tue 23-Jun-26 11:53:55

The obsession over peter Murrell and his multiple coffee machines seems very small fry by comparison.
I too wondered why this case has not drawn equal outrage.
It is far worse.

paddyann54 Tue 23-Jun-26 12:03:50

welbeck money is a.ways more important than abuse.
Given that Mr. Murrell stole FROM the SNP and the media loves an SNP BAD story of course it was ramped up….from the blue tents in their garden to a parade of their belongings on view to the world.
This NI case is a man abusing children….nothing to be seen here…or very little.Didn,t his party get billions from Teresa May.? Where did that go?
Like the Huw Edward’s case kept under wraps by the media ,this stinks!

It certainly does stink!

They did paddyann, and their support helped to push BREXIT through.

MickyD Tue 23-Jun-26 14:24:26

It is headline news here in Northern Ireland.

welbeck Tue 23-Jun-26 15:15:53

But do you have endless phone ins
Radio and tv discussions and analysis
Like we did re the Murrell story.

Silvergirl Tue 23-Jun-26 15:39:57

This disgusting crime has hardly been in the news because it has consisted of wall to wall "get starmer out" coverage. They can only handle one story at a time!

Never understood why wives help their men to do this. Could be coercion or it could be covering up to keep their lifestyle. Seems very unfair she's not stood trial.

welbeck Tue 23-Jun-26 15:42:30

She is not fit to plead.
A trial of the facts found that she did aid and abet her husband in the commission of the offences.

Oreo Tue 23-Jun-26 17:40:15

Just awful.
