Tomorrow apparently.

Can people list the things he has done that people have liked about him please?
Personally, I think he will be a Leader who I will soon forget.

I understand he may be a nice person.
Though personally I think he did far too much of "standing by people". He stood by everyone until he couldnt do it any longer.

He did do well about foreign wars.

Looks like we'll get Ms Rayner back. Scum always rises to the top, as they say.

Below the belt remark. Is ok to dislike a person in politics but just saying something offensive is lazy and immature.

It says something about the person saying it.

Can this be reported?

Not unless you're Angela Rayner, in which case I would have thought being called scum is a personal insult and, therefore, reportable.

I despise him. Can't think of anything nice to say. He's done so many awful things.

Such as?

ronib Mon 22-Jun-26 16:02:57

Stopped middle income families from accessing private education? No problem for the wealthy?

Peaseblossom Mon 22-Jun-26 16:03:52

MollyNew. Seriously? She's entitled to her opinion. Most people would agree.

*MollyNew*. How long have you got?!

All day

Despise is a strong opinion. I'm always interested to know how people get to the point where they despise someone.

As for describing someone as "scum", I think it's offensive, whoever says it.

Barristers have a cab rank system, They have no choice over who they defend. And they are also obliged to give the defence their best shot.

It's a pity that you don't seem to understand how the UK legal system works.

I could be wrong when saying, I fear Andy Burnham could leave this country in a worse state. He has not given any idea of having a plan if he is voted. To me it seems the only reason is that the Labour MPs feel they have more of a chance Labour will win the next General Election if he becomes Prime Minister

He has plans. You just don't read the right media.

Maybe we could look on this positively. Angela Rayner has risen to the top through her own efforts, despite very humble beginnings. Most right-minded and fair people would respect her for that, whether or not they agree with her views.

We went through all this scum business when Rayner wore the wrong trouser suit after the 2024 GE. I was beginning to think that Burnham was going to cop it for wearing a black tee shirt and sandals (on one of these Burnham threads) but mercifully it was a short lived diversion... grin

Actually, I believe Mountbatten made the remark about scum rising to the top when in the water after his ship HMS Kelly was torpedoed in WW11.

Like all these trite sayings it also has a counterpart in that 'cream always rises'

ronib Mon 22-Jun-26 16:35:18

Interesting to see if Burnham will wear a shirt or two if made pm…. Maybe for meeting Trump?

Essexgirl145 Mon 22-Jun-26 16:35:54

Cossy, he did sell of the Gold reserves and you may not ha e noticed any difference, but if he had'nt done that the banks would have crashed and you would have noticed it then.

Don't get me wrong, I admire Angela Rayner for her tenacity and ambition and support her politically. However, I think the use of the term "scum" was beneath her and I believe she apologised for it. I hope she is back in the new cabinet soon.

This is Angela Rayners view on changing leaders mid-term

ronib Mon 22-Jun-26 16:39:04

Yes hypocrisy is the name of the game…

Smileless2012 Mon 22-Jun-26 16:40:50

Didn't Rayner in 2021 call Conservative ministers "a bunch of scum"?

GrannyGravy13 Mon 22-Jun-26 16:46:24

I believe she did Smileless2012

She did indeed, in private. And Bevan called the tories 'vermin' but no-one holds that against him...

MaizieD Mon 22-Jun-26 16:54:07

In fact, he said they were 'lower than vermin'...

He is not a member of the current government as far as I am aware.

Susieq62 Mon 22-Jun-26 16:59:27

Watching him resign with dignity this morning it made me realise what a kind, caring humble person he is! Plus he loves his family and his country deeply! He was totally vilified as soon as he entered number 10! Our nasty media went for him continuously and credit him for not giving in!
He has overseen
No fault evictions stopped
Deportations have risen
Immigration has fallen
Breakfast clubs for children
Triple lock saved
Etc

Ok he wasn’t charismatic or mind blowingly enthusiastic but he steadied the ship after 14 horrendous years! He kept Trump at bay and did not get into
war issues! Plus sorted out tariffs !
He won’t be remembered for much but I do respect him and hope he manages to use his legal attributes and expertise in the future!
