Versatile as Andy no doubt is, I don’t think he can halt global warming or stop wars.
I do think, that where green credentials are concerned the UK is doing quite well, but we’re a tiny island and it’s up to the big guys like the US and China to step up.

It depends how seriously he takes the threat and what measures he's prepared to take if he becomes PM. Watching/disseminating The People's Emergency Briefing would be a good first step.

Well, I think some islands are going underwater (parts of Java, Tuvalu), temperatures are definitely rising fast; there are more storms and floods. We are rapidly reaching a tipping point when it will be too late to act

China is the top producer of plastic tat.

If USA would acknowledge that it's real, & not call it fake news & go with the "drill, baby, drill" then my gut tells me Chima would match their efforts, blow for blow, plastic tat & all.
With the USA being such a massive consumer, China can't do much unilaterally.

Think Andy Burnham's abilities have been over rated, he is not going to be the saviour of UK.
Even Clarke Kent would have difficulty dealing with all the current problems.

Well I will stick my neck out and say I dont want a huge defence budget its all due to Trumps warmongering I want to save our world for my great grandchildren when they come along.

We’ve had times when it was very,very cold in the Ice Age. We have had times of huge floods when the continents became separate. We have had times of earthquakes wiping out and changing areas. We have had times of extreme heat. Are we so arrogant as to suppose everything will stay the same and that we can control the environment ?I don’t think so. King Canute tried and failed and so will we.

Looking back on life, it has always presented us with existential
problems. The imminent fear of nuclear obliteration in the late 1940s to late 1980s. This too would destroy human life on earth.

I think individuals and countries will ramp up their efforts to reduce emissions as the problems get worse. We have seen that happen in the last 10-15 years.

There is another aspect of that is contributing to climate control, and that is that the world is very close to peak population and in most countries in the world population growth has stopped and in many most developed countries births have fallen below the replacement rate. Several countries have tried incentivising people to have more children, without success.

If the world population were to half, that would make an enormous contrition to reducing emissions, increasing wild habitats and increased forests and wildernesses.

Part of our adjustment to climate change needs to be planning for population decrease and facing the problems it causes, such as atop heavy society with many old people and fewer young people.

I do understand that we are a tiny country with little impact. But if you add together all the countries with 1 or 2 percent emissions, that adds up to around 35%. According to the scientists in this film, civilisation as we know it will end before this century is out. If we want to avoid that, we can only look at ourselves as individuals, our community and country. And try to put pressure on the rest of the world too ! So not much to ask! 😬

China is actually the world's top energy producer from renewables. The US not so much!

But China is a very big country with a huge electricity production and only 30% of its power comes from renewable sources. It is also consumes 25% of the world's coal output each year in power generation.

It shows a swathe of Central African countries, Norway, Iceland produce all their electricity from renewables. Other countries like Canada, Brazil, Sweden and Greenland and more African countries produce 70% plus of their electricity from renewables.

On the other end of the scale most of the 'sinners' are physically large countries. Both Russia and the US produced barely 20% of their power from renewable sources. India, China, Australia and Argentina hover around 30%.
