He said he’ll keep the triple lock if he wins the next stage.

Galaxy

I have quite a bit of time for her, but her problem is her links to the previous government, but there is very little she can do about that.

Her problems are more than her links to the previous government.

I don’t think she has any problems at all actually, but has made the role her own over this last year.
KS certainly is made to bluster and flustered around her, don’t know if AB will fare better, hope so.

I listened to PMQs and thought he did well actually.
Wish it had always been so.

I expect he feels released from the straitjacket of office - like I did once when I handed my notice in and my husband did when he took early retirement!
That amazing "summer vacation" feeling.

I hope he has a few weeks of joy now!
🤸‍♀️🕺🏼

I agree NotSpaghetti.

I too have experienced that feeling of walking away from a job that was weighing me down like a millstone. It is literally as though a weight has been lifted from your shoulders.

I hope KS feels that same relief. He tried his best; it wasn’t enough for the PLP; let them get on with it now.

Burnham’s going to need more than eyelashes and black t-shirts to succeed in today’s febrile environment.

Enjoy the summer Sir Keir … Burnham’s got what he wanted; it’s his problem now.

Casdon Wed 24-Jun-26 17:10:27

Of course he will Oreo, he just has to flutter his eyelashes…

Tuliptree Wed 24-Jun-26 17:11:07

Incredibly dangerous to think any political leader has no problems at all. An utter impossibility . They are all flawed - it’s just a question of how much.

LizzieDrip Wed 24-Jun-26 17:14:51

Didn’t watch PMQs (can’t be bothered with the ridiculous theatre of it) … did Badenoch actually make that comment about eyelashes and t-shirts?

Casdon Wed 24-Jun-26 17:17:19

Yes she did.

*ronib*, cuts in staffing have been going on seriously for at least 8 years!
Changed contracts from permanent to temporary, at least 15 years ago, ie only pay 9 months of the year, less tutors per student: Last year and the year before we had local strikes because of the cuts.
The main changes in the more flush universities are less income from International Students because of Brexit

Where have you been all this time?

I’d say even longer than 8 years. The reduction in foreign student due to massively increased fees had an impact but so did the increase in home students fees. When my son attended University, in 2006, his fees were kept at 1,500 per year (his original place was offered in 2004 and he deferred) when daughter started in 2015 they had risen to £9,000.

In addition, my understanding, is there’s been a decrease in courses too.

Chestnut Wed 24-Jun-26 17:33:29

All is not lost. I hear Al Carns is approaching on the left flank, which sounds promising. He might stand against Burnham.

Wow!

Just imagine if a male MP (leader of a party)
had made a similar comment about a female MP!

Casdon Wed 24-Jun-26 17:44:58

You don’t see his immediate reaction on camera. I doubt if he will lodge a complaint, he’ll see it as just part of their usual PMQ banter.

Cossy Wed 24-Jun-26 17:48:10

Lizziedrip it’s both appalling and hilarious at the same time! grin

LemonJam Wed 24-Jun-26 17:48:54

Badenoch raised some laughter on her own benches with the eyelash/T shirt comment but it was Starmer that got the biggest laughs. Badenoch attracted quite a bit a jeering and a direct reprimand from the Speaker after Badenoch referred to the Education secretary quite personally and meanly I thought. Hoyle then looked Badenoch straight in the eye and told her to be careful with her language and show some respect and decorum.

After PMQs Bridget Phillipson, the education secretary, said that Kemi Badenoch lost her head at PMQs:
“ Kemi lost her head at PMQs - and afterwards too. It’s not the first time. She’s compared me to a Gestapo officer. I wonder what it is about a working class woman driving record investment in state schools by ending private schools’ tax breaks that the Tories hate so much."

Phillipson also posted this on social media:
“3,008 more teachers in secondaries & special schools
1,646 more teachers in colleges
Trainee teachers up 13%
Teacher pay up 9.5%
Record investment in schools
If standing up for state schools makes me a spiteful class warrior, I’ll wear it with pride.

Starmer I thought was strong today in what was always going to be a difficult PMQs for him. So there was no need for Badenoch to be disrespectful.

LemonJam Wed 24-Jun-26 17:50:05

It wasn't the eyelash/T shirt comment that was the problem it was how she spoke ab out Philippson in my view....mean girl attitude.

LemonJam Wed 24-Jun-26 17:51:20

Philippson responded well and even though admonished from the speaker and even though Badenoch got her facts wrong her spokesperson has said she will not be apologising.....

Cossy Wed 24-Jun-26 17:51:24

I think AB would be willing to face a leadership vote/election- just not sure it can be deemed his fault and his responsibility if other contenders don't put themselves up for a vote. But appreciate others hold different views.

I too agree.

LizzieDrip Wed 24-Jun-26 17:52:25

I agree Cossy it is … but I’m not a fan of ‘banter’.

Casdon Wed 24-Jun-26 17:53:17

Yes, I was watching. The eyelashes and t shirt comment did raise a laugh from both sides of the house, it was funny - and to be fair, accurate. Overall Starmer came out on top though.

LizzieDrip Wed 24-Jun-26 17:53:31

To Cossy 17.48

NotSpaghetti Wed 24-Jun-26 17:53:39

My husband's speciality was cut 18 months after he left Cossy.
And at another university my own speciality went recently.

Some subjects are more expensive to run than others in terms of space (and staffing).
Maths and English (say) will I expect always be cheaper to run than Ceramics and Engineering.

Casdon Wed 24-Jun-26 17:55:43

As long as it’s not too hurtful, I enjoy the banter, I think it serves to lighten the mood in a forum that is by nature unavoidably adversarial.

Tuliptree Wed 24-Jun-26 17:57:42

kB used the words treachery and betrayal and in ref to BP spiteful. Tge Speaker criticised her language and then added that people should not be surprised when these words would be picked up and used against MPs by those outside the Chamber. Words like treachery and betrayal can be seen as inciting people. I’ve always felt that KB gets carried away with being cheered and overreaches herself very easily. She’s nowhere near as good as she thinks she is

LemonJam Wed 24-Jun-26 18:08:56

Tuliptree- I agree Badenoch was spiteful- and for no reason or just cause. I dont like this shift of certain politicians towards incitement using such language- it's a growing trend- that the public can then mimic. We should expect better from political leaders.

Hoyle was right to call it out. One thing that we do know about AB- and witnessed in the Makerfield by election run up and on Question Time- AB is inclusive ( in actions and words), not spiteful, mean spirited or divisive. He does not rise to the bait and never sought to undermine Kenyon on any occasion. That is a good thing and he still won.

LemonJam Wed 24-Jun-26 18:09:18

ie spiteful to Phillipson....

Wyllow3 Wed 24-Jun-26 18:10:29

Typical stirring.

Just wait till they are repeated in certain parts of the press. Which was the plan all along. Ah....... foolish lady....wait till they do it to you in times to come.

Childish.
