One of the first things I do is browse news online each morning, whilst enjoying a cuppa courtesy of DH.

I don’t have a favoured source currently, so use a range.

My plea is to please have at least one place I can go and read news. both national and international, which is accurate, non-biased and actually “news”!

I don’t care how many people loathe Harry and Meghan, or what the Vardy’s are doing or how much money X, Y & Z have. I don’t care about footballers or their antics or who is seeing who and where!

I’d like to hear/read a wide range of actual news, including politics.

BUT I’d like to read this news with facts, not snidey comments nor political bias.

It used to be The Independent which employed good, true, factual journalists, The Daily Mail, though right biased, used to have some great investigative journalists looking into miscarriages of justice across a wide range of issues, The Guardian and Observer were known as more left leaning and The Times and Telegraph as right wing.

But I don’t find this so true these days, and I know some will reject this but I find so much media “right leaning” these days and am just looking for “balance”.

Anyone consistently reading a publication which is both factual and balanced and covers a wide range of topics and issues or, do you, like me, trawl through many differing sources?

Enjoy your week thanks

.

I gave up on the BBC news quite a few years ago as tbe bias was so obvious and annoying. I wanted to hear the News of the day not their version of it.

And so.left'wing - just like Question Time.

Media today is stocking hatred and misinformation! You would think that there is only Trump in the world!
That it is only Israel creating wars?
Nothing to do with Iran or terrorist groups!
Nothing positive in our government, they are totally blind about how tough life is today!
And the media commentators are horrendous! Why send them to Downing Street when it’s obvious they aren’t going to see anyone and even when they are on recess?

I must admit I have started reading ‘Positive News’ you can get it online, but I asked for a magazine to be sent on a quarterly basis. I was so fed up of all the negative stories.

right leaning, you must be joking, far left more like

monami Wed 10-Jun-26 15:09:34

exactly

For thorough, methodical feet on the ground centrist liberal reporting i subscribe to the economist. I also subscribe to unherd. I no longer trust the bbc or the guardian both captured by the pro pal gender iD left.

You could try Sensemaker, this gives you short pieces of news and no celebritities!

Oh yes I’d forgotten the library link -mines called Press Reader and has a huge number of publications available all for free but sadly not the FT.

Thanks for this information. Will try to find out more.
👍

I don't think there is and has ever been such a thing as purely Objective News .

News has always been subject to bias, manipulation, control and opinion from various factors and influences.

Not helped by PR and lobbying from various quarters.

Good investigatory newspaper journalism is really thin on the ground. Though you may get the odd TV programme documentary.

God knows what will happen when AI kicks in.

M0nica Thu 11-Jun-26 08:15:30

WithNobsOnIt I quite agree over objective news. Many tests have been done by many psychologists over many years that show when a group of people describe the same event, each description will be different depending on the outlook on the world.

I know this won't be universally popular, but the BBC is still one of my "go to" news sources. At least they usually give sources, which can then be followed up.

Many call it the Biased Broadcasting Corporation.

Only last week they were forced to apologise to Nigel Farage for misquoting him.

I used to support the BBC but barely watch it now.

The Guardian is the most independent of the Newspapers - not in hoc to ‘big money’ or interests. Channel 4 is by far the most independent of news reporters on TV

GB News for me,very balanced debates giving left and right wing views but of course a lot of you will slate it having not even watched it..😉
It has overtaken sky and BBC to be the most popular news channel
And I will just wait for “It’s not a news channel” to be hurled at me! 🤗

Same here Shinamae! I do flick through other channels but always come back to GB News. I like most of the presenters and I like the way they always include viewers and listeners. Their live shows with Patrick Christys are always packed and the audience always get a chance to have their say.
There is such a wide range of guests and panellists and although things sometimes get heated they usually end on a friendly note.

GB News for me too Shinamae. I particularly enjoy the Camilla Tominay show on a Sunday morning.

It’s a case of if the cap fits with one’s preferred media. This was what a AI referenced search of who watches GB News revealed.

‘Data from Redfield & Wilton Strategies polling shows the typical GB News viewer is mainly male, over the age of 55, and tends to lean heavily to the political right. The core viewership makeup includes:
Gender: About 62% are male.Age:
Older demographics. Most viewers are over 55, with very few younger adults watching.
Politics: A large majority voted for the Conservative Party in the 2019 election and supported the "Leave" campaign in the 2016 EU referendum.
Class: Viewership is quite evenly split between working-class and middle-class audiences.
The channel's content often focuses on culture-war topics, immigration, and right-wing political commentary, which appeals to this specific demographic.’

I like Deutsche Welle (in English or German), which has better world news coverage than most UK news outlets and reports on UK news from a foreign perspective.

Try Al Jazeera.

I'm not poking or joking. It's often worth reading.

I often look at it for an alternative Middle East perspective

And your point is? 🙄😁

Casdon Mon 15-Jun-26 11:02:51

My point is that people’s habits are changing, GB News appeals to the demographic described. TV is no longer the preferred choice for accessing news for the majority of the population, people access their news through different means now. Look at the overall news media access figures to see.

Just been watching footage of BBC Question Time where they had planted people in the audience. Talk about biased!

There was a migrant who could barely speak English and suddenly he was talking like a legal expert as he was reading it off his phone! These people who were planted had also been coached by a migrant charity.
