This story seems to have gone cold. The latest update I could find was on the 21 May. Is it being investigated?

If the Reform candidate for Makerfield is anything to go by, then definitely gawd help us.

His performance on last night’s BBC Question Time was abysmal … completely out of his depth. Came across as ‘thick as a brick’ IMO.

Don’t think Andy Burnham’s got anything to worry about there👍

I think Elon Musk is extremely intelligent. Why he bothers getting involved with UK politics I can’t imagine unless it is because he thinks he could make it better in some way. Good luck with that one, Elon !

For those of you who missed (or deliberately avoided) Kenyon on last night’s QT, you can catch up with his ‘deeply insightful’ comments on YouTube!

I wonder if you’ll be saying that when he turns his attention to Australia nanna8?

Much as I really do like your contributions, we really don’t need help from Musk, or anyone one else in other countries to help us with our political system or most of our politicians.

Musk is an extraordinarily bright and inventive person, who can certainly make money. However, he is a very flawed individual who has values which may not align with many of us here in the UK.

I’m not sure those Americans Musk fired when Trump gave him free range within his MAGA dept!

Also Musk chooses to bankroll the likes of Yaxley-Lennon and actually we don’t need Musk helping us here in the UK.

Cossy Fri 05-Jun-26 11:15:06

Ooops sorry, brain whizzing ahead of fingers, that should read”those fired by Musk in the USA won’t have a high opinion of him”

Cossy, Switching voters' attention away from the economy towards culture issues has been a huge success for Reform (and its predecessors). They have no policies for improving the country's economy (in contrast to their own personal financial advancement), so they don't want people to focus on that. Yaxley-Lennon is a useful patsy.

I agree.

What I truly and genuinely don’t understand is why Reform supporters cannot see this?

nanna8 Fri 05-Jun-26 11:38:20

I don’t like Reform, either but I can see why people go that way. Have to say we could do with young Mr. Musk here but he wouldn’t bother with us, too small an economy and too far away for the likes of him. Our pollies are getting steadily worse but no alternatives really so we just grin and bear them ( or bare them as regards teeth 🤪!)

twaddle Fri 05-Jun-26 11:51:33

Why on earth could you do with Elon Musk?

Honestly, I think Australia wouldn’t welcome a Musk of any age.

He’s a money maker, but he’s also very divisive, has some awful character flaws, is a co complex character and, as with all immensely rich, a dangerous man.

You’re ok without him thanks

MaizieD Fri 05-Jun-26 12:17:59

He’s a money maker,

He doesn't make money, he sucks it up from everyone else.

He also is able to do what he does because he inherited wealth. I would point out that a significant part of his 'wealth' is based on stock valuations, not actual money, and could considerably diminish when the imminent stock market crash happens.

No other country needs him, he would destroy their economy given the chance.

All he is interested in is securing wealth for himself and his fellow billionaires. He caused devastation to many lives and worthwhile institutions in his short reign at the DOGE

Thanks for clarifying and I agree with you.

What he did in DOGE was simply appalling.

Why on earth do you believe Musk can be of any assistance to your country nana?
He’s a strange and unsettling individual, lacks either empathy or integrity.

The guy has had attempts on his life and been attacked. The reality of being in England now it seems given we have lost two MPs is Public places. The money is/was for security. I'm ok with that

Farage makes a point of not being in public places though - not the HoC, or his constituency, & recently not even at press conferences or TV studios.
Why he needs to spend £5 million to stand in the middle of a field (probably Farage's own & pesticided to the hilt) to record a political announcement is beyond me.

Mr Musk is a seriously unpleasant individual who has never been seen to use his beyond - comprehension wealth to do any good for any one.
His comments on how other countries are run are unfailingly negative and unhelpful.
Perhaps he could offer his thoughts on their shortcomings to his adopted country, or his country of origin.
