Farage fails to report 5 million gift!

There was a "Profile" programme on Harborne today on Radio 4, well worth a listen. I don't think it is appropriate for anyone, however rich, to fund any party to the extent that Harborne has, especially if he does not pay UK taxes. However, I also believe there should be a limit on the level of donation in any one year even from UK based individuals and companies, it gives them too much power over the democratic process.

I agree and have for some time: it should be limited by law to prevent a USA situation developing.

So the Frinton house which he didn’t pay the second home duty on on because his girlfriend bought it, the party are now saying was paid for with his fee from I’m a Celebrity. So does he now owe some stamp duty…like Angela Rayner?

The house in question is in Surrey- a different house to the Frinton property.

The net is tightening- perhaps thats why Farage seems to have disappeared and gone quiet? He was not in PMQs either again today- though that is in ono way unusual. I wonder if he will campaign in Makerfield laying himself open to difficult questions on the door step?

Isn’t the life of any opposition mp pretty redundant when the government has such a huge majority? What exactly is Farage supposed to do in the House in the face of 400 ?? Labour holders?

As an MP at Westminster, he is just one of many new-boy back-benchers. He may consider the post as just an unimportant part of his portfolio of (very well-paid) jobs and not worth expending as much time and energy on as some of the others which could reap a lot more profit for his personal finances.

That risk is the reason that MPs, MSPs. MEPs and so on are expected to declare all gifts and remunerations - so that if any of the donors are in a position to receive favours from them in return for generosity, the link is not concealed.

There are as everyone knows 650 MPs and 437 actual seats in the House of Commons. Nigel Farage is 97 percent aligned with the Reform Party when he votes. Obviously loads of MPs can’t physically get into the House.

He is a party leader, there is always a seat for party leaders in the house. Party leaders are expected to be present for PM questions, because that is the challenge forum for opposition parties. You must know that.

He is rarely even there for major issues on which votes are recorded. He has participated in about 33% of recorded votes since becoming an MP, which ranks among the lowest in the House of Commons. That is woeful for somebody who wants to become PM.

I can’t bring myself to debate something so obviously required as the attendance and participation in questioning the government by party leaders at PMQ on a regular basis.

An MP and Reform UK party leader, that wishes to be the next PM no less, who can't be bothered to do his job by regularly attending Westminster/ HoC and his supporters can't see much point either.

Has Farage got himself onto any of the select Committees? That's where much of the real work of MPs is done.

Reducing the number of MPs would mean bigger constituencies and voters feeling even more remote from Parliament /Westminster.

The place that needs a huge cut in numbers is the House of Lords; there are about 800 of them. Many of them there because of patronage, not worth.

Good to know that Farage's £5million gift affords sufficient security to campaign on the streets of Greater Manchester but not enough fund security to attend one constituency surgery in Clacton? Just why 🤷‍♀️

For the record, I am not a Farage supporter. But I can quite understand why he sees our present government as a … waste of time?

I’m just amazed at your attitude to MPs, particularly party leaders, not being expected to fulfil the most basic of duties for which they were elected ronib. In fact I am gobsmacked.

A minority party at the moment. I am more gobsmacked by the majority party. The party who keeps coming up with some pretty strange ideas.

But that is not relevant, as it does not detract from the dereliction of his core duty as a party leader. None of the other party leaders regularly fail to perform the most basic elements of their role. Why are you defending such actions?
