Migrants pretending to be gay so they can claim asylum

As Petra said up thread this has been common knowledge for ages.

Two things spring to mind, firstly how dangerous it is to be gay in some countries where ultimate sanctions are applied hanging, beheading, thrown off the top of a building. Things were bad enough here at one time, look how we treated Alan Turing, who changed the course of the war in our favour. So I'd hate to think we couldn't give sanctuary to those who are fleeing brutal regimes where execution for one's sexuality is applied.

However, it's a fact that we have crooked, manipulative lawyers here who make a lucrative living off not only these cases, but defending absolute criminals such as "groomers" having committed hideous crimes and then hinder their deportation through lengthy appeals via Legal Aid. Very little seems to be done about investigating the abuse of Legal Aid in such cases it does seem.

Yes, back to the op, but I still don't understand why you dragged the victim's family into the discussion. Oh well, I guess it made sense to you.

Final response, just to explain (in case I was unclear) ..... the victim and the family are not the type of people who would ever lie. Far far from it. No one claimed they lied. The murderer did lie over and over again.

If you've ever had any experience of people with serious mental illness, you'd know that lying isn't uncommon. Any mental health worker worth his/her salt knows that.

Nobody's asking you to have sympathy for him, but it is a fact that's how schizophrenics often behave. Calocane hasn't gained anything because he'll be locked up for the rest of his life.

Illegal immigrants are now also being advised to say they are fleeing from domestic abuse. Again making it more difficult for genuine cases to be believed.

This claim was made during his trial and rejected by the prosecution. His claims of schizophrenia, of hearing voices were believed to have been fabricated, the 'idea' coming from his wife Sonia received treatment 2 years after they were married.

Yes, Calocane had schizophrenia. That is established.

But he lied about his symptoms.
He lied about taking his medication.
He lied about being out of the country for appointments.
He lied about the location where he was living.
And the list of lies goes on. One lie conveniently leading to another.
Liars are the people I find the hardest to in any way have sympathy for.

All of you just think about how awful it is to be a dirty lying immigrant without thinking how blessed you are and how desperate they are to survive, not die, take care of their loved ones. Elderly and children. I would lie too, in order to survive.

Indeed it is, and quite right to stop it. But arguing that because a man has had a child and was married he could not have been gay all along is quite inaccurate, as I said, it used to happen all the time to hide being gay in the UK for centuries.

One of our very good friends, only in his 50’s, married a woman and had two children. He only had the “guts” to come out much later.

My SiL, did precisely the same, she was born in 1954, into a strict catholic family. Whilst away at teachers training college she found she was more attracted to women, however when she qualified, she did what was expected, married a man and had children, she left him after 2 decades to “come out”, however the guilt was too much for her and 1 year later she committed suicide.

It’s awful to have to hide the fact you’re gay.

It’s even worse to “pretend” to be gay for your own gain.

I’m empathetic to most asylum seekers, so these stories make me very angry, the advisors and solicitors are totally corrupt, those pretending to be gay will make it so much harder for those asylum seekers who are persecuted in their own countries, to seek asylum. Awful situation all around, but this isn’t a new story.

What amuses me is the fact that the bbc thought. that nobody knew about the scam.
The world and his wife knew about it 🤦🏼‍♀️

Of course it's upsetting - but I just looked them up -Calocane had already been sectioned 4 times and did have a long history of MH issues.

Peter Sutcliffe had a significant history of mental health issues, primarily diagnosed as paranoid schizophrenia and had been previously sectioned

Alexander Lewis-Ranwell was also already previously diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic and had also been sectioned before

nanna was alluding to people who had no history but attempted to use a claim of a mental heath severe condition as a get out card.

This is what I questioned. Sadly it is a fact as we have seen in a number of cases that it was the driving force for crimes here - thats why we have Broadmoor and always have.

If there isn't a history and a claim is made then that is a different matter of course.

How long has this been going on. Well now the home office knows ( that’s assuming someone’s told them) something will be done about it.

I saw this yesterday, the first I have heard of this.
I was horrified at the lawyers lining their pockets by suggesting this form of appeal.

Btw, Calocain was very definitely mentally ill. It is not a concocted lie.
