When is a royal tour, not a royal tour?

Silly me! It's when you visit a children's hospital and wave at the crowds. As well as visiting a homeless refuge and a War Memorial. Not forgetting attending an Invictus event and the last post ceremony on Anzac Day.
Plus the inevitable money making events which are now allowed.
Harry and Meghan's visit to Australia, (in very high shoes and expensive outfits).
Forgive my confusion. Am I missing the point? 😆

Do tell, when did member the royal family make a public visit to VG ?

Sorry, don’t understand your question? ?

Oh, I don’t know. The Royals aren’t adverse to making a bob where they can.
At least they’re not relying on the King to bail them out of trouble.
£12m, I think it was, to pay off Virginia?

Harry and Megan making money as they doing in Australia

The late Queen definitely didn’t want this

Sorry, didn’t want what?

Harry and Meghan are not supported by the British taxpayer, that's why they go have to earn a living and they are trading on their names and connections to do so, having rejected those connections

No, they are not supported by the British taxpayer, but all this palaver about funding armed security shows that they want to be.
Who else would be paying for it? .

Yes the curtseying incident when Harry was sitting there and didn't say anything.

I found that very disrespectful.

I wonder who's footing the bill for their trip. Flights, accommodation and so on.

Let's not forget the famous "I can't believe I'm not being paid for this" comment when last in Australia, so presumably they are being paid by someone.

Must be amounting to a pretty penny!

I read Harry has a lucrative speech engagement while Meghan is hosting a morning 'do' just for women with expensive tickets, but you will get your photo taken with her.
They have stated it's 'privately funded' but I'd bet the house not by them. As long as I don't have to contribute I don't care who is funding it, but there have been murmurings from discontent Aussies that they 'may be' funding the security arrangements. It's all very unclear.

I agree, Allira, but I suspect Meghan wouldn't like it!

Harry said in Australia that he decided long ago that he didn't want to go down the Royal path.

Lucky him, having those options. William has no such luxury.

But happy to trade on his title and connections.

Perhaps he should forgo all that and become plain Mr Henry Mountbatten-Windsor.

I wish she hadn't made fun of the Queen

Do you mean about the curtseying thing Millie22? I recently stumbled across something from 2024, whilst Megan and Harry were on a tour in Colombia. Apparently, there's video footage of her teaching children how to curtsey and they practised on her! Her life's dream; having someone curtsey to her! So much for eschewing royal life.

I don’t doubt that Meghan was cruelly trolled which may be the reason she wants to support other victims but their chosen path of self pity despite their lavish lifestyle works against them.

She has very publicly trolled members of Harry's family too.

Nope. Ten years ago I wouldn't have had any idea who she was.

I wish she hadn't made fun of the Queen. I sort of liked her before that.

Smileless2012 Fri 17-Apr-26 10:25:51

I hadn't heard of her either and wished it had stayed that way.

Allira Fri 17-Apr-26 10:23:57

Excuse typos!

merlotgran Fri 17-Apr-26 10:23:36

10 years ago I had not even heard of her and I can’t believe I am alone in that!

Neither had I.
There’s the truth and then there’s Meghan’s truth. 🤔

But these 2 grifters aren't the royal family absent. We don't pay anything for them. They left; don't you remember?

People don't remember and many fail to understand the function of the Monarch and how a Constitutional Monsrchy works.

Some members of a family whose brother, father uncle, sister, mother etc just happens to be the Monarch should be irrelevant as long as the Monarch does the job required of them. Their power is limited, unlike a President.
(Please don't bring up Ireland as a good example anyone. That is irrelevant too! 😀)

What does need to happen is that we should retain a Constitutional Monarch but make it easier to remove unsuitable or irrelevant members of the family from the line of succession.

Harry and Meghan are not supported by the British taxpayer, that's why they go have to earn a living and they are trading on their names and connections to do so, having rejected those connections. However, they are not representing the Royal family, they are celebs.

^Meghan has announced that ‘for 10 years she was the most trolled person in the world, but she’s ‘still here’.^

Ah, that's what I heard on the car radio today only I thought it was scrolled not trolled

Is that an achievement?

Do we care?
Not a jot.

It's not just young people who see the Royal Family as archaic and unnecessary.
