Agreed Fallingstar and WW.

Indeed, the hard core Farage fans probably love the racism and misogyny - similar to the MAGA crowd🙈

As Reform are proving so useless when elected in Local Government, surely voters will realise and they will never be in a position to form a Government?
Would Farage be re-elected anyway or have the voters of Clacton realised he's not interested in them and not representing them as an MP should? He's only interested in self-promotion.

I think MAGA may be waning. This from some Americans.

The thing is, just like Trump, no matter how much dirt is dished on Farage it won’t make a dent in how his supporters feel about him.
Remember Trump once boasting that he could shoot a man dead on the street and still be Mr Popularity with his voters.
Right now he has done worse than this in Iran and still I imagine his supporters think he is the best thing since sliced bread.

To be clear, my communication with Greenberg’s office was not about Farage’s Cameo videos although I would say that any allegations that these videos are fake could easily be resolved. There there will be a clear audit trail. Customer request, payment and broadcast followed by declaration of payment in the MPs Register of Interests.

My concerns were with what Reform MPs were broadcasting on social and other media during:

a) the 2024 summer riots triggered by the Southport murders,

b) rioting at Harehills, Leeds and

c) the Manchester airport incident involving a violent altercation between two men and police officers.

I said that there had been a breach of paragraphs 9, 11 and 17 of the Code of Conduct:

9. Members are also expected to observe the principles set out in the Parliamentary Behaviour Code of respect, professionalism, understanding others’ perspectives, courtesy, and acceptance of responsibility.

11. Members shall base their conduct on a consideration of the public interest, avoid conflict between personal interest and the public interest and resolve any conflict between the two, at once, and in favour of the public interest.

17. Members shall never undertake any action which would cause significant damage to the reputation and integrity of the House of Commons as a whole, or of its Members generally.

So when I’m told that the Commissioner is prevented from investigating a Member’s views or opinions, including those expressed on social media, I cannot help but wonder how paragraph 11 in particular - avoiding conflict between personal and public interest - is being policed by Parliament.

I suppose the short answer is that it isn’t and therefore Reform MPs and Rupert Lowe will continue to make posts which stoke division and public disorder.

Farage’s Cameo appearances were clearly a conflict between personal and public interests nor least that he found many hours in which to make these when he can’t find time to do any work in his constituency. The content of the videos also damages the reputation of the HoC and MPs in general. It’s cheap tat that makes a mockery of the position.

I am having deja vu circa 2015 USA

Yes imaround, is scarily similar. You would think those presently planning to vote for Farage would look across the pond to the US where Trump has caused chaos and catastrophes not just in the US but worldwide.
I doubt it will deter the hard core voters though.

Which part of the reach of the Code and Conduct for MPs do you claim has been misunderstood butterandjam and why?

.

See "scope of the code"
publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm5803/cmcode/1083/1083-1.pdf

"The Code applies to Members in all aspects of their public life. It does not seek to regulate
what Members do in their purely private and personal lives. "

Apparently MP's private and personal life includes their views and opinions, including ones they express on social media.

publications.parliament.uk/pa/cm5803/cmcode/1084/report.html

"17. The Commissioner cannot investigate allegations solely about breaches of the Seven Principles of Public Life.

18. The Commissioner cannot investigate the following, unless as part of an investigation into an alleged breach of paragraph 11 of the Code:

a) policy matters;

b) a Member’s views or opinions, including those expressed on social media;"

Ignore my 12.24 post- here is my correct edited post.

I Apologise for long post ahead. Having just read the code in the link provided by butterandjam 11.16 I think I'm with Graphite that there are grounds to investigate Farage who may have breached the code by way of his Cameo video content for financial gain.

As Farage has so often called for investigation of other politicians he should equally be expected to be similarly subjected to the same investigation scrutiny and take the investigation outcomes on the chin as he expects from others.

Also an investigation will result in findings that the Cameo videos are fake or real as there appear to be doubters in this thread. If the racist and antisemitic Cameo videos are proved to be fake the investigation will conclude so. You would think also that Farage would actively put himself forward for investigation after the Guardian exposed his Cameo videos if that was the case as well as accuse the newspaper of libel and seek financial damages.

Just restricting the investigation to the Nolan Seven Principles of Public Life and Rules of Conduct sections would help bottom the facts out pretty quickly and would be in the public interest in the following ways:

Selflessness
Holders of public office should act solely in terms of the public interest. Investigation- IS IT in the public interest for the leaders of a political party seeking to be elected to form a Government to make video content for financial gain that includes racist and antisemitic commentary. Needs establishing and behavioural standards upheld.

Integrity
Holders of public office must avoid placing themselves under any obligation to people or organisations that might try inappropriately to influence them in their work. They should not act or take decisions in order to gain financial or other material benefits for themselves, their family, or their friends. They must declare and resolve any interests and relationships. Investigation- CAMEO video subscribers sought to influence Farage to make Cameo videos containing racist and antisemitic content for Farage’s financial benefit.

Objectivity
Holders of public office must act and take decisions impartially, fairly and on merit, using the best evidence and without discrimination or bias. Investigation- FARAGE should be aware aware what is racist and antisemitic commentary and if not needs education, support and guidance and warnings not to repeat.

Accountability
Holders of public office are accountable to the public for their decisions and actions and must submit themselves to the scrutiny necessary to ensure this. Investigation- FARAGE is accountable for the content of his Cameo videos and submit himself for scrutiny. If he is not willing to be accountable he should not be in public office.

Honesty
Holders of public office should be truthful. Investigation- FARAGE should have the opportunity to admit and apologise for any the content of his Cameo videos shown to be racist and antisemitic.

Leadership
Holders of public office should exhibit these principles in their own behaviour and treat others with respect. They should actively promote and robustly support the principles and challenge poor behaviour wherever it occurs. Investigation- WHEN Farage was given a script to record racist and antisemitic comments he should have shown leadership and refused to do that particular video request. If he did not know this be presented with the opportunity to learn, apologise be educated and not to repeat his actions going forward.

D - Rules of conduct
1.
2. Members must base their conduct on a consideration of the public interest, avoid conflict between personal interest and the public interest and resolve any conflict between the two, at once, and in favour of the public interest. Investigation- IT IS NOT in the public interest for an MP to make videos that contain racist and antisemitic comments.
3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

8. Excepting modest and reasonable personal use, Members must ensure that the use of facilities and services provided to them by Parliament, including an office, is in support of their parliamentary activities, and is in accordance with all relevant rules. FARAGE recorded some of his Cameo videos inappropriately in his Parliamentary office for financial gain- he needs to be warned this is not acceptable and not to repeat..
9. 10.

11. Members shall never undertake any action which would cause significant damage to the reputation and integrity of the House of Commons as a whole, or of its Members generally. THE PUBLICATION of Farage’s Cameo video content showing his racist and anti semitic commentary undermined the reputation and integrity of the HoC and its members generally. The public trust is undermined. Frage ought to be given the opportunity to realise this, apologise and not repeat.

E – Rules relating to upholding the Code
12. Members must co-operate at all times with the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards in the conduct of any investigation and with the Committee on Standards and the Independent Expert Panel in any subsequent consideration of a case. Investigation- Is Farage willing to put himself forward for investigation in the same way he has expected other politicians to be investigated- ie same rule for Farage as for others.

I share your frustration. I'm hoping, though holding my breath, the new head of Ofcom will sharpen and strengthen Ofcom's regulatory teeth and take action against Farage's broadcasting roles.

Please read what I said. I did NOT say I was a Farage supporter.I merely said that all the speeches he has made publicly never mentioned the Jewish people. That is true. He makes speeches almost every day, just for your information. I hold firm to that and too bad if you choose to disagree. He spends most of his time going on and on about the boat arrivals and the incompetence of the Labour government.
I am certainly not anti semitic, that is a joke and if you knew me it would be blaringly obvious. I love my son in law and his family.

I merely said that all the speeches he has made publicly never mentioned the Jewish people. That is true.

That is NOT true.

In a 2017 LBC interview, Nigel Farage discussed US political lobbies in response to a caller comparing Russian influence to others. He said: "There are about six million Jewish people living in America, so as a percentage it’s quite small, but in terms of influence it’s quite big... In terms of money and influence, yep, they are a very powerful lobby... The Jewish lobby with its link to the Israeli government is one of those strong voices.".

Sorry, Allira, don’t understand?

There is constant criticism of a poster who does not live in this country if they post an opinion about the UK.
It constitutes one pile on after another.

In contrast, there seem to be plenty of threads where posters express opinions of world events, criticise politicians in other countries and that is, of course, perfectly acceptable. So why is it not acceptable for posters from other countries to do the same? We did have posters from overseas on the boards but most have, in fact, disappeared. Now, why is that I wonder?

If someone disagrees with the views of a poster, why not say so politely instead of telling them they have no right to an opinion, that they know nothing?

I might not agree with the poster in question, but I'm not going to tell her she has no right to post because she does not live here.

No-one should be in control of the threads apart from GNHQ.

Report me if you like.

Graphite Sun 12-Apr-26 11:32:29

Indeed.

The Code applies to Members in all aspects of their public life.

If MPs are tweeting publicly under their names with MP attached to it then I regard that as coming under the umbrella of their public life.

This tweeted by Rupert Lowe MP to Ed Davey MP:

4:00 minutes into the Guardian clip in response to the Cameo prompt ...

“talk about how the world is going to shit and how secret societies control everything.” ...

Farage chose to say. “Is it the Bilderbergers that are running the world? It could be the Masons. Some think it’s the Rothschilds. Maybe it’s George Soros.”

The names are used in antisemitic tropes about Jewish people secretly running the world. So why did Farage chose to repeat those tropes?

Perhaps those who sees no antisemitism in what he choses to say could explain.
