Trump never fails to annoy me, but the headline today absolutely enrages me, his ignorance, his stupidity, his arrogance!

What he evens means by the below is beyond me!!!!

ā€œ ā€œUS prepares to punish Nato states for Iran rift
President Trump has warned that the UK may face a ā€˜reckoning’ after an audit of the war effort.ā€

ā€œBritain has been told by the Trump Āadministration that it will be audited along with other Nato members to Ādecide which should be punished for disappointing the president during the war in Iran, The Times understands.
The UK is also facing pressure along with Nato allies to step up military support to secure the Strait of Hormuz, and there will be consequences for those countries that fail to assist.ā€

Oreo

Starmer is placating Trump by promising to help in the case of getting the Strait Of Hormuz opened up again with a coalition of partners.
Iran doesn’t own it, however much they claim they do.

Indeed, Iran doesn't own it but Iran has the power to blow any ship using it out of the water. I think that holds far more weight at the moment than 'International Maritime Law.

Am pretty sure someone must have whispered in Trump’s shell-like what NATO is actually there for i.e. defence and not offensive military action against a country that poses no threat to NATO members.
I just think he doesn’t give a monkeys and if NATO doesn’t do what he wants it to do NATO either has to bow to his unreasonable demands or he throws it under the bus.

Spot on and I’d say there’s the door Me Trump, shut it please in your way out!

Oh and btw Mr Trump, you have 6 weeks to taken all your lovely serviceman home from all and any UK airbases

The Strait of Hormuz should have been secured first as anyone with a modicum of intelligence would have known.

How would it have been 'secured'?

TBH I’m more concerned about America and / or Israel dropping the N bomb than Iran!

I think we might as well accept that Trump will not support any of the current NATO countries if we are attacked (by Russia). So we should say what we’re thinking out loud. Tell him to take his bases off our land, and we’ll form a new alliance … minus Trump’s America.

And I agree WW Rutte is a prat! He’s supine behaviour is making us all look weak. We need to get rid!

I've no idea 'how' Maizie but it's blindingly obvious that it should have been.

Pointing out the purpose of NATO and the rules and regulations for its members is not indulging in a hatred of the POTUS Oreo. It's Rutte's job and if he really understands where Trump's coming from when he moans about not being supported in this illegal war, he's in the wrong one.

Absolutely! We’ve all lived through various leaders of the USA, I’ve never come across a POTUS like Trump who insults everyone who doesn’t agree with him, threatens nations who don’t agree with him and have managed to destabilise so many countries both politically and economically whilst having the the audacity to blame the rest of the world!

He’s utterly in the wrong, it’s not about ā€œhatingā€ him or ā€œdisagreeingā€ with him. He’s a madman!

Perhaps the two people hellbent on ā€œbombing Iran back to the Stone Ageā€ should have thought about this and put some their own ships in place prior to bombing?

Nothing whatsoever to do we us, or Europe, but here we are expected to make do and mend, it would be laughable if it wasn’t so tragic.

Trump and Netanyahu drop the ball and expect us and Europe to fetch it, pump it up again and throw it back to them!

I don’t think so!

Or getting them blown out of the water by Iran once the illegal war was started?

I was annoyed with Rutte. Seemed weak in not defending NATO.
I wonder if this outburst of Trump's is because he is angry with Melania and had to take it out on someone.
The video he put on Truth social of a man murdering a woman with a hammer speaks volumes.
Trump has no control of his temper.

It was Rutte who said that in his interview Oreo, not something put out by Trump for his supporters.

How would we feel if any country was to drop an N bomb Meandrog? It would be the beginning of the end for us all.

Yes but do we as countries now have the chance to change the situation in Iran?

What about the Trump regime threatening the Vatican! Reminding the Popes envoy that there was a time when there was another Pope (in Avignon)

Grandmabatty Fri 10-Apr-26 12:24:13

Aveline, I was very heartened to see that the pope's reaction was to cancel his summer visit to USA.

I am not a Trump supporter but do just wonder if the Iranian regime manages to make a nuclear bomb and then uses it, should we and other countries have joined in with the US against this vile regime?

If, if, if.
IF Saddam Hussein has weapons of mass destruction. No weapons or evidence found.
IF Iran has a nuclear weapon. No evidence found.
Tony Blair lied through his teeth and stupidly dragged us into the Iraqi war.
Thankfully, Sir Keir Starmer has more sense and refused to kowtow to Trump and his illegal war.
Trump, egged on by his equally odious mate, Netanyahu, has made an almighty mess of things and despite claiming a wonderful victory for the US knows he hasn't won anything of note and is resorting to expletive laden speeches and threats. I doubt it will come to anything.

NATO has no remit for attack only defence. So it is a group of countries who are signed up to help defend any member who comes under attack from whoever it might be. Defence only.

The USA attacked Iran without recourse to NATO members.

The USA is not under attack.

I know NATO is for defence purposes only. My point was more that should the Iranian regime drop the N bomb at some point, how would we all feel then about ours and other countries not backing the US.

I hope that the UK would not take a cult leader like Trump as its prime minister. Cults like TRUMPISM are peculiar to the USA and I hope don't apply to the UK.

Jaberwok Fri 10-Apr-26 13:02:22

So, as has been said, how exactly could the Straits of Hormuz been secured before this war began??!! Bearing in mind Iranian Drones and the fact that we in particular do not have a functioning Navy, (which in any case would be blown out of the water by said drones, ) securing the Straits would be impossible!

Smileless2012 Fri 10-Apr-26 13:04:32

If there had been any chance of changing the regime in Iran which IMO is questionable, America starting an illegal war when talks were ongoing will have scuppered it.

Trump told the Iranians he was giving them an opportunity for freedom; that was never his intention and all he's managed to achieve are the deaths of innocent men, women and children and encouraged the supporters of the regime to dig their heels in.

TB did not lie through his teeth Sarnia. He believed the information he'd been given as did members of his government and members of other political parties.

Maybe if Vance is supposed to be a catholic and supports the Trump's regime's rhetoric, maybe he should be excommunicated.

If this is the case I'm pleased that the Pope has cancelled his visit Grandmabatty. He seems to be the only person prepared to stand up to Trump.

Chat GPT edited my opinion (above) to make it printable according to Chat's own guidelines:

As a commentator, I think ā€œTrumpismā€ is hard to separate from Donald Trump himself. It doesn’t really look like a traditional political movement based mainly on a clear and consistent set of ideas. Instead, it seems much more centred on one individual.

His personality plays a major role in setting the tone, and his way of communicating often shapes the direction and focus of the movement. Because of that, it can feel less like a fixed ideology and more like a form of political identity built around support for a particular leader.

In political science, this is sometimes discussed as personality-driven politics or a ā€œcult of personalityā€ style dynamic, where loyalty to the leader becomes more important than a detailed policy programme.

Of course, not everyone will agree with that interpretation, and there are clearly policy positions involved as well. But it does raise a reasonable question about how far the movement depends on one person for its coherence and identity.

If you want, I can also make it softer and more ā€œdiscussion-friendlyā€ (to reduce the chance of replies turning hostile), or add a gentle question at the end to invite engagement.

No need for me Caleo I think it's a very good analysis; thank you.
