Iran has been targeted again and again, had thousands literally of missile attacks, all the top dogs have been killed, their missile factories and weapons capabilities gone, their Navy gone, uranium enrichment gone and so on and so forth.They couldn’t even find two downed air crew.
The so called new Supreme leader may or may not exist.
They had no choice but to agree to a ceasefire and open up the Strait of Hormuz.

Measures and claims of "victory" will hopefully become clearer over the next 2 weeks. Currently we have a very fragile 2 week conditional truce with Israel not fully on board.

There’s victory and victory, if the US and Israel achieve the military advantages they wanted to in Iran then they’re happy.
If some of the regime are still alive then they’re happy.

Israelis say Trump didn't consult them, but hopefully the real possibility of incurring USA's wrath will make them confine themselves to badmouthing all & sundry and not actually breaking the Iran ceasefire.
It's ridiculous, Israel is less than a third the size of Scotland, a smidgen bigger than Wales, & it has so much influence over events in that pivotal part of the world.

Iran will only get a change of regime when things get so bad that enough people manage to get the military on their side.
Quite obviously the Iranians didn’t consider the murder of 36,000 of their own citizens in two days in January by the authorities as bad enough to rise up.

There is no victory for any country in this debacle. USA has lost the respect in the world that it once had, there will be more terrorist attacks as Jews will be targeted more by Muslim hardliners wherever are they are in the world, and Iran will dig in and will not shake off oppression for longer than it would have done before, that’s my opinion anyway.

I agree WW that the victory is Iran's. Trump's threats of the total destruction of Iran have resulted in the total humiliation of Trump.

True but he will spin it to make it look as if he is the hero who got rid of some head honchos in the regime and gave the long suffering Iranians a new shiny regime. Same regime essentially.

Isn't it up to the people of Iran to govern their destiny and try and resolve their leadership issues? Agree, the issues are huge, but interference by another state will just cause tension and mayhem. There needs to be another way.

His response was:

Iran has agreed to a 2 week conditional ceasefire and out forward its terms as earlier posts set out.

Vance is on record stating this is a "fragile truce" that Iran must not "lie or cheat' during forthcoming 2 weeks "negotiations".

I hope the ceasefire holds longer than 2 weeks- however looking at Iran's list in the context of Trump's impatience, belligerence and narcissism, particularly in context of Iran's insistence that the ceasefire must include Lebanon (Pakistan agrees that was the deal- Israel disagrees) and it distrust of Trump the current "truce" is more fragile than even Vance will admit.

The next 2 weeks will be fraught and the chance of success of the peace fire holding beyond for any significant period that is far from being a given or even likely.

What rubbish! Mercy for himself is far more likely.
Trump had got himself into a very dangerous situation and had to find a way out that was acceptable to most normal people.

We are a long way from agreement on many of the proposed terms, it means that Iran can continue unfettered on it global Islamic terror campaign. It means the extreme religious regime can behave like North Korea and blackmail us all as well.
