Yes, it's usual for big book shops to order in books, but if they think a book will automatically be a best seller they buy in multiple copies for themselves. The way it's been promoted, it will only appeal to the faithful for confirmation of their views.

Claims about being sold out are meaningless. Goodwin is obviously printing to order. Wait a few weeks and see how many appear on Ebay for a few pounds.

There must be data somewhere which shows how many copies of a particular book has sold.

Just out of interest as I have no intention of buying the book, I looked at the reviews on Amazon. Unsurprisingly, the book reviews are as divisive as Goodwin's political views are. You either agree with his views or you really don't. I'm firmly in the second camp! See below

He cites key dates 2063 and 2100, 37 years and 74 years hence when he claims that White Britons will no longer be the majority and the white population will “collapse” to 33%. Its all part of the Great Replacement conspiracy theory that he subscribes to.

A prediction is just that. It isn’t truth. Nobody predicted that, globally, millions of people would die from Covid; that the number of deaths in England & Wales in 2020 were 13% higher than usual due to the virus.

There will be another pandemic; just a question of when. Scientists always knew that one was coming. They called it Disease X or Pathogen X. The reason they were able to develop a vaccine relatively quickly was because the groundwork had already been done with vaccines developed for Ebola and MERS.

Black people faced a higher risk of COVID-19 infection and worse outcomes than white. Studies showed they were up to twice as likely to contract the virus compared to white people, the disparity largely driven by structural inequalities, higher likelihoods of working in public-facing jobs, living in crowded housing and reduced access to healthcare.

Has Goodwin factored that into his predictions?

He even cites the popularity of the body’s name Yahya as sinister because it was the name of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar. It’s the Islamic form of John the Baptist, the Jewish prophet. One might as well say all males called John are bad. On Muslim baby-name sites it’s less popular than Yusuf, the family name of what often seems like Reform’s chief spokesperson, when Farage needs cannon fodder.

Goodwin sound desperate to make any kind of connection to push his narrative that all Muslims are bad people when, clearly, they are not. If that suits your own narrative then read the book. I would rather not read his propaganda.

The way Matt Goodwin has chosen to self publish and distribute this particular book (unlike his previous books) has been clearly clarified several times. Ronib also clarified "the author has said it was not backed by any major publisher as he would not have been allowed to say what he wanted". Out of Goodwin's own mouth he purposely wants to control the narrative alongside piece meal, limited distribution. That way he doesn't waste money on printing copies that end up not selling and also gets to keep his sales figures private.

Definition of "meltdown": a severe, sudden failure or collapse, referring either to a nuclear, reactor core overheating or melting, or an intense, involuntary emotional response to being overwhelmed. It represents a total loss of control, acting as a reaction to high stress or an emotional situation. Because of the length of this thread and because you believe those that disagree with you are Lefties? If you say so....

In answer to your comment about the origins of the title of the book, I am not sure I understand the point you are trying to make. Does it matter if a very different meaning was made originally? If I were researching for a book title and found what I thought was apposite, I wouldnt be giving any significance to the original meaning.

As far as predictions are concerned, it is very easy to be dismissive, yes we are unlikely to be affected but what about my grandchildren?

I was very uneasy about what happened in
Trafalgar square, quintessentially such a British symbol, should this have been used as a place of public Muslim worship? Why not keep said worship to their Mosques? I have also read pieces by Muslims who have fled their own countries due to Muslim extremism and who do not want to see it happening here.

The point Toynbee made was that decline is rarely caused by external enemies, but by internal decay such as corruption, militarism, and loss of purpose. Goodwin is citing Toynbee and has stolen his book title but is saying the opposite - that Muslims are Britain's enemies.

He should perhaps look to the corruption in the party he has attached himself to (crypto donations from who knows where in today’s news) and its support for the militarism of Trump which has so far caused over 3 million Iranians to be displaced. Reform will be the first to complain (or maybe the second to Restore) when Iranians seek refuge in the UK.

Trafalgar Square is only quintessentially British because it commemorates militarism. Muslims played a significant part in that victory.

I’m interested in how Goodwin is manipulating population numbers to fit his own narrative.

When the ONS analyses birth data by ethnicity it also records whether this is the mother’s first, second or third child. It doesn’t go beyond that so I'm assuming those having their fourth or more is include in the third category.

The numbers in a post of mine upthread above did contain an error. My fault for not noticing that totalling the numbers from a filtered section on the ONS spreadsheet is including data from outside the filter.

Nevertheless, In 2024/25 of the 537,422 live births. 343,186 were to white mothers, 289,130 were to white Britons. The remaining 194,236 were to all other ethnicities many of whom may be British.

It is often claimed that white families have fewer children but where is the evidence for that? Looking at the ONS data where the mother had a third child, it’s clear that white Britons are not lagging behind others.

The chart shows the numbers for 2024/25. Over 37,209 births to white British mothers having their third or more child compared to the closest “rival”, Black Africans on 5,368.

Add all the ethnic categories together and it doesn’t exceed the number of white British births. Nor does the ethnic category say which faith is followed.

A human generation is generally considered to be about 20 to 30 years, representing the average time between the birth of parents and their offspring. 2063 is only 37 years away so not even two generations when Goodwin is claiming white Britons will be a minority.

In light of the data, Goodwin's 'predictions' come across more as guesses, estimations or some politically divine prophecies- belived by those who share his political beliefs of course, but do not stand up to scientific and rational scrutiny.

We are still and should be a fundamentally Christian country, its important that our values are upheld although I think you are correct to say that all religions should be able to practice peacefully. Its not a bad idea to ban mass religious gatherings though.

Reform UK relies on right wing populism positioning itself as the 'voice of the people' against a perceived 'corrupt elite', its platform built on radical anti immigration policies and anti net zero rhetoric. Matt Goodwin's book is a Reform rallying call based on predictions that many have gone on record to say are not based on verified scientific data. But then Reform UK has never let facts stand in the way 🤔.

That resulted in Zahawi 'agreeing' a penalty repayment to HMRC of £4.8 million. His final position after his many inconsistent statements was admitting "carelessness' with his tax affairs. An approach echoed by Farage in respect of expense claims, declaring his interests, etc etc.

Matt Goodwin argues that UK born people from minority background backgrounds are not necessarily British and ancestral connection should be prioritised over legal citizenship. What will that mean for Suella Braverman, Nadhim Zawahi, Zia Yusef et al. Will they be able hold Reform office but unable to vote in Reform UK's brave new world?

Matt Goodwin fits the elite, establishment mode and now seeks a political career hitching up to Reform's populism. He has an academic background so has full knowledge of "truth' and the application of scientific data to support 'predictions'. He now chooses to go the populism way as it suits his current political ambitions.

If diversion and deflection doesn't work for Reform UK in the first instance- Farage has learned the DARVO strategy from Trump- Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender. a strategy to avoid taking any responsibility accountability for actions. We saw Farage use that technique in his various changing responses over Dulwich college school racism allegations. We see the Farage/Reform UK pivot to deflect and blame 'family voting' to counter Matt Goodwin's failure in recent Gorton and Denton by election.

I cannot be denied that there is large scale public pessimism in our current political landscape and leaders, in current chaotic, worrying times. Matt Goodwin seeks to capitalises on this in his political ambitions journey.

Trump has created global chaos, civil unrest, othering of immigrants, pushed away allies, made himself and family members enormously rich, more elite and served the business establishment well. Trump surrounds himself by enablers that sublimate themselves to him and the MAGA cause just as Farage does. Both refute facts and data and promote conspiracy theories when right wing populism rhetoric is challenged . Farage models himself and Reform's rhetoric on Trump and MAGA. But these are just your views, which you are entitled to hold just as I am. I consider your views to be very skewed but no doubt you feel the same about mine. When you mention populism what it is really saying is that those who hold populist views must be thick, easily led fools.

He has an academic background so has full knowledge of "truth' and the application of scientific data to support 'predictions'. He now chooses to go the populism way as it suits his current political ambitions.

If diversion and deflection doesn't work for Reform UK in the first instance- Farage has learned the DARVO strategy from Trump- Deny, Attack, Reverse Victim and Offender. a strategy to avoid taking any responsibility accountability for actions. We saw Farage use that technique in his various changing responses over Dulwich college school racism allegations. We see the Farage/Reform UK pivot to deflect and blame 'family voting' to counter Matt Goodwin's failure in recent Gorton and Denton by election.

I cannot be denied that there is large scale public pessimism in our current political landscape and leaders, in current chaotic, worrying times. Matt Goodwin seeks to capitalises on this in his political ambitions journey.

Trump hasn't got the answers and all the book reviews critical of Matt Goodwin state he has put forward no answers either. Trump has created global chaos, civil unrest, othering of immigrants, pushed away allies, made himself and family members enormously rich, more elite and served the business establishment well. Trump surrounds himself by enablers that sublimate themselves to him and the MAGA cause just as Farage does. Both refute facts and data and promote conspiracy theories when right wing populism rhetoric is challenged . Farage models himself and Reform's rhetoric on Trump and MAGA. Matt Goodwin has now joined the club. Right wing populism has not been successful in the US and won't be for the UK.

Matt Goodwin is a Reform wannabe MP- not yet successfully gained a seat. His book is positioned and published at this particular time to help him in his ambitions- rather than setting out any political solutions. The world needs solutions rather than right wing populism not based in fact.

Who thinks we were once an incredible country? Colonialism and war mongers is not a great history. The worst we have done recently is ... Brexit. And all because over half of the voters we're pulled onto the obscene self-promotion of the likes of Boris Johnson and the reform party.
At least Starmer has been trying to take a more measured approach to the illegal Trump/Netanyahu illegal war. There's even suggestion that we may become closer to the EU again. I hope so..,..we really don't want to be waggy tail dogs to the USA and particularly the deranged Trump
