Yes, I walk through Cardiff city centre if I’ve been out in the evening. There’s a rowdy element, but I don’t tar all younger people with the same brush because of that, when the evidence that drinking less on average is readily available- and when it’s always been the same in city centres on Friday and Saturday nights. I’d imagine a lot of us were there too in our younger days.

I was, I’ve never been keen on cocoa. I’ve never witnessed any racism though, just high spirits, shouting, and people being sick in doorways. I don’t think the research is wrong however, given the number of clubs and bars has reduced in the city centres due to less custom over the years.

They drink at home first then go out for the night.

Young people drink a lot less alcohol than we did 50 yrs ago but there is still a club culture in the cities and large towns, where binge drinking is the order of the day. However since Covid that club culture has declined considerably.

Soft drug use has increased considerably over the years, so many are intoxicated on drugs not alcohol, almost to the point of being acceptable.

Well Trump has certainly stirred a hornet's nest, he is dragging everyone into his war, he won’t be in the firing line, the coward,. The evacuation itself us costing millions.

They don’t matter because Trump is presently killing the ordinary people of Iran wholesale, there was never any consideration of their lives, wishes, or desires for a better future.
Of those who celebrated and danced initially I imagine some will have been killed in the air strikes, and getting killed by the regime or killed by Trump is not a trade the Iranians people were imho prepared to make.

Trump doesn't understand the Iranian culture or mindset and he's surrounded by people who also don't understand anything about Iran and it's people. This regime would rather go down fighting and take thousands of innocent Iranians with them than submit to Trump. It is not Venzeula. Trump is a dangerous man with the most powerful military in the world, it is a very worrying combination.

Some drink.
Some dont.
Some drink small amounts, some large.

Yes, there is less being drunk I think, on the whole.
But in no way can you go by your own social circle, and think the rest of the country is like that too.

Seeing Trump on tv this morning, gleefully saying how well America is doing and gleefully lying saying that Iranian authorities have asked how they can make a deal and he's told them they're too late and 'we' want to fight more than they do, made me think we must be living in the 'upside down world'.

I couldn't help wondering what those men standing behind him were really thinking.

Iran have said they haven't and never would make a deal with Trump now.
He was lying.
Iranians believe that dying fighting for your country is dying with honour.
For a draft dodger that would be incomprehensible.

There is an article in the DM today that says it is all really about the US and China. Havent read it enough to take it all onboard yet.

Yesterday on the radio were several interviews with expats who had been out of the ME on holiday or business but have now gone back. Also over half of the expats over there have not registered as wanting to leave. I feel conflicted about our responsibilities to them - you know like people when there’s flood warnings and won’t leave their homes but would expect others to put their lives in danger to rescue them later. I know there’sCrown Servants out there but those numbers are much smaller and they are serving us in various ways .
I don’t know anyone in our armed services but I wonder how I’d feel for the govt putting them in even more danger for DT and BN?

I think the relentless media attacks on the Govt are becoming unhinged. Today they are being blamed for the delay in the evacuation plane taking off. FFS. And some of the returning UK citizens are showing no gratitude just moaning in exactly the way they would if it had been an air traffic controllers strike. You wouldn’t think as they were bring interviewed that people were being killed and injured or having their lives and livelihoods ruined.

Hang on … Italy, France and Germany has sent its navy to protect Cyprus…. Beyond belief!

British citizens in Cyprus.

Families have been relocated away from the RAF base at Akrotiri but I'm not sure if they have been evacuated from Cyprus. There will be Army families in Cyprus too, located in different areas.
