Flipping heck - by a majority of 6-3 the USSC has ruled he exceeded his powers in imposing tariffs when there was not a state of national emergency. He is going to be do very very cross - he’ll be sacking the six naughty ones I expect

Whitewavemark2.
Well said.
And I can see quite clearly that Farage and his motley crew are cut of the same cloth. I can only hope that those wishing to throw in their lot with Reform can see how things are panning out in the US. Certainly the ordinary people are not benefiting from his time in office and voters are realising that they really should have been careful what they wished for.

Yes - There are so many examples of Farage’s propensity for self enrichment. Certainly cut from the same cloth.

Hopefully more people in the US will realise that unless you are in Trump's inner circle he doesn't give a passing thought for your welfare.

Here we are - an exact and recognisable description from google.

Kleptocracy, meaning "rule by thieves," is a form of government where leaders use their political power to expropriate personal wealth and natural resources from their nation, often by embezzling public funds. It is a system characterized by systemic corruption, where state policy is designed to serve the private interests of a small, wealthy elite rather than the public.

This guy gives you a breakdown (yes, he does have an American accent!)

There's quite a bit of economic explanation about markets etc.

What is it with Trump, Tariffs, the Chagos Islands etc, etc, etc, slagging off Starmer, the Chinese, Putin, South America, blah, blah, blah.....

Surely serious mental illness?

keepingquiet Sun 22-Feb-26 09:09:59

No- serious over entitlement and narcissism, which are not mental illnesses. You do mentally ill people a disservice by comparing them to Trump.

The problem is he is the democratically elected President- so maybe all those who voted ofr him are also mentally ill?

No, they're not.

Fallingstar Sun 22-Feb-26 09:15:33

I will say again what I have said before, I have never heard a grown man speak the way Trump does, he sounds like my four year old GS which is actually a disservice to my GS. He rambles and rants in a way I find totally bizarre. I know we all laugh about it but it just isn’t right on so many levels.
Can only hark back to Mussolini and the way he presented himself but am not even sure he spoke like Trump.

keepingquiet Sun 22-Feb-26 09:19:36

He is certainly unique and hopefully we will never see the likes of him again.

However, most people voted for him because of that- a businessman not a politician.

This is what happens when politicians mess up and distance themselves from their voters- we may well look at Farage and wonder what people are seeing in him?

We even voted to leave the EU???

Crazy people get crazy politicians it seems to me...

Casdon Sun 22-Feb-26 09:20:52

I agree Fallingstar. He’s thrown his toys out of the pram again. I just wonder how far his Republican voting mothers will let him go before he ends up on the naughty step,

Jennerdysphoria Sun 22-Feb-26 09:25:13

It's a pity other governments and heads of state have to take him seriously. I read that he was frozen out at the Davos meeting, and had not been given a red-carpet reception by the Swiss, as had been customary for previous US presidents. There should be more of this whenever possible. I wonder how far he would have to go in disrespect (defecating on stage?) before backs were really turned on him.

LemonJam Sun 22-Feb-26 14:09:37

Trumps reaction to the Supreme Court decision is not entirely unexpected from what ever seen of his reputation for poor emotional regulation and retaliatory behaviour.

He's imposed 15% tariffs under a different law, like a toddler trying to get his own way- but that only impose such tariffs under that law for a 5month period I understand before needing to gain Congress approval to continue.... chaotic.

Out of interest I looked to price of a Chevrolet Tahoe 4x4, 70.000usd. Tariffs in 2026 are said to have added 500usd to total.

Subaru Outback (not 4x4) 37.000usd tarriffs added 5k.

Wonder if POTUS tariffs changed purchase patterns to USA produced?

The problem is that they (and us) do not produce many of these goods any more.
They rely on imports and industries producing these goods, even if home-produced, rely on component parts and raw materials being imported.

I understand parts may not all be produced in country.

However, to tariffs in the US, I found it interesting tariff on a mid range 70K Chevrolet were only 500 whilst Subaru tariffs on a car costing much less (only 37K) were well over 5K.

I wondered if Americans might embrace 'buy USA'.

Ladyleftfieldlover Sun 22-Feb-26 14:28:13

He has said he doesn’t need approval from Congress.

Allira Sun 22-Feb-26 14:29:52

Possibly, he will claim it as a success if that happens, Norah.

The problem is that some of the steel is imported.

I understand steel prices.

I understand production, my UK car is now produced in Slovakia.

However a larger 4x4 car at very low tariffs compared to a quite small budget car at much higher tariffs - I wonder about POTUS tariffs.
