A victim’s suicide can be a desperate escape from unbearable abuse. When the victim is also a parent, the children left behind may face further harm if the abuser keeps or gains custody. We believe that this puts vulnerable children at risk and denies them safety and stability.
We need a change to:

Help families heal and break the cycle of abuse
Victims and their children deserve justice, safety, and a chance to rebuild without fear".

This petition has merit for sure but in the context of this post and Allira's plea for a review of sentencing guidelines for paedophiles this one might be of more interest " Mandate of Mandatory Prison Sentences for Padephiles" The petition starter is from US, hence spelling, but still launched change.org and has 3,801 verified signatures to date.

Absolutely agree. And I don’t think children should be in nursery until they can talk. Actually I don’t believe in nurseries at all. I looked after my own children. We were poor really. No meals out, no takeaways, 2nd hand everything. Today’s generation aren’t prepared to live as we did. So children are looked after by strangers.

Oh Gran22 boys, I am sad to read your post. I was a working mother because my husband left, and worked very little thereafter.
We had no meals out or takeaways, either.
The alternative, I suppose, would have been for me to stay at home, and claim benefits : would you find that more palatable?

My children went to a childminder, still a friend when those children are now 40 years old. Their children all went to nurseries, as well as a day a week with grandparents. They’re happy, confident children heading to high school age.

Paedophiles are sexually attracted to children. Some are sexually attracted to infants, toddlers, primary school age, some to young teenagers. That attraction won’t go away, it won’t change. Their risk of continuing to offend is very high.

If today's generation, 206, of mothers and fathers in the work place (we did actually fight hard for equality) with children receiving child care (of many varieties and combinations) to enable them to work were not able to work the country and its economy would grind to a halt! that would include schools and the NHS. Many families' mortgage or rent payments would fall into default. It would be chaos....

I remember reading many years ago about a woman who had left her young child in the care of an uncle. She arrived back unexpectedly to find him 'interfering' with the child.

She took a kettle of boiling water off the hob and poured it over his crotch area.
I can't say I blame her.

I don't think anyone can lay the blame at mothers who have to go out to work, it's a relection of needs must. Hence the proliferation of after school clubs, those were far fewer when my children were young.

Parents have to have absolute confidence in their child care provision. What a worry these incidens must be along with the occasional cases of staff being mean to small children. One such person employed in a nursery, near where I once lived who pinched, shoved and slapped some of little children in her care. She was convicted.

I was listening to a debate, whether men should be allowed to work in a nursery environment, few said no.
I don’t think I agree with that though.
I mean there have been females who have interfered sexually with minors in the past.
I really don’t know what to think or suggest other than putting up cameras in every area (which I know just wouldn’t be allowed. These people want chemically castrated who abuse other people & that’s abusing any age group!

I speak as a recently semi retired nursery professional. I don’t know how on earth he was allowed alone with any children. The full time of my day because of ratios I was never ever alone(3/4) year olds. The ratio in my room was1/8 in babies it’s 1/4 in tots room 1/6 how he could have got the opportunity beggars belief. I hope this evil man gets his just desserts in prison.

It seems reasonable to assume the possible following factors - the nursery was often understaffed ( against regs) maybe staff phoned in sick and they had no cover ( saves money) and /or there was adequate staff but he’d offer to do something that left hm alone with a child , maybe said you have an extra break or something and staff ( against regs) just did So really poor management at the root of this staff who just didn’t care enough

I dont understand how he was able to get that access to children....in our church we have a no one- on -one rule for all adults with children...that is basic prevention..high visibility etc.
Additionally, if he was on camera, how was that not picked up?

We can make educated intelligent guesses - poor management, cost cutting, poorly trained staff who basically had no awareness of what safeguarding meant.Any investigations, special enquiries , whatever will find this. There are no other explanations. No matter how evil and cunning Chan was, a well run nursery, well resourced with well trained staff would not have resulted in this.

In a primary school too where he worked for ten years, I believe.

His crimes were committed over two decades.

Unless he is chemically castrated he must be locked up.

Yes. Chemical castration is voluntary and would require the offender, when released, to comply.

That is not acceptable in many cases, especially one such as Chan's.
