I really don’t want US army bases on UK soil, especially when they might be used to empire build rather than in defence. But am sure the US must pay the UK government for having bases here and so here we are.
The US has bought the grace and favour of many countries and now it must be hard for governments to say no.

Wonder if he plans to invade Greenland using some of that military?

The US has bases in Greenland so they just need to use those to do the job.
I imagine the US would be more likely to use bases in Europe to hit Iran, there are bases in Turkey but I imagine Erdogan will be incensed if Trump tries to use those to do this.

I couldn’t say about this alleged arrival of US aircraft but surely generally US bases are needed in the UK as part of the NATO defence system. If we expect the US to defend us, we have to play our part.

Although, of course, as an autonomous territory of Denmark, Greenland is a member of NATO.

Scaremongering in my opinion. We are in NATO and I hope the US maintains an adequate military presence in the UK in case of need.

According to the BBC, a number of US military planes left the UK this morning and the US has seized the empty oil tanker in the Atlantic that is linked to Venezuelan oil. It is apparently empty.

It’s very busy with US aircraft at Fairford. Globemasters, B52s & more than likely stealth bombers. DD works at the local village school situated half a mile from the runway. Sometimes it’s so noisy, everything in school stops 😳. When I lived locally they flew literally yards above my house & I was often woken by the oncoming lights of chinooks approaching over the fields behind the house. Fascinating & terrifying at the same time. Particularly now.

They employ a very large number of local people. There are many bases including at Fairford and in East Anglia (I was at Lakenheath and Mildenhall yesterday, with my military plane-spotter husband and his equally mad mates). 6 F15 fighters were arriving from S. Carolina and another 6 came in this morning. It's nothing new though - there are frequent military exercises.

There are currently no B2 planes (stealth bombers) at Fairford but that doesn't rule out any imminent arrival!

There are ( I gather..) 14 empty tankers out there that the US is having a Good Look at.

I’m fed up with being at the beck and call of the USA. They are currently no friends of ours. What a blind we will be in if Trump goes for Greenland.
