I do think Gransnet needs more men aboard; a different perspective is always welcome.

However, not all men and women do differ widely in their opinions, it just perpetuates that old chestnut that women are from Venus, men are from Mars. It's lazy stereotyping.

A for Trump I don’t like his style of diplomacy, but I agree that removing Maduro was a good move, migration should be controlled but he should stop theatening Greenland.

Those who see him as an enemy on par with Putin are beyond the pale, Europe would as helpless as the headless chickens we are without the US.

We really do need the US tho it seems fashionable to constantly diss it.
In this case with Maduro, Trump isn’t any different to past Presidents who have removed Leaders in South America.

He had a certain respect for and interest in the 'elderly' viewpoint because, as he said, many had lived through an era of relative peace and prosperity, so had a reference point that the younger generation could only read about.

I suggested he join GN but English was not his native language and although he spoke it fluently, he sometimes struggled with grammar.

... and, as a side note, he generally preferred the company of women because he thought debate with them was more interesting and nuanced - and less likely to involve 'muscle-flexing'...

It makes all the female posters on Gransnet sound like an homogenous mass with just one viewpoint with which you disagree, whereas there are often debate, disagreements and many differing viewpoints on threads.

And I think it's important to pick up on a view when its suggested women don't "work" because we dont "go out to work" or its unpaid work. Has nothing reached various corners of the universe that house work and financial home management and the devoted care given to others by women and men too is work:

... I did mention the subject matter as being the important issue here upthread a bit - referring to the worrying (well it is to me) proliferation of AI generated fake news, or faked-up interviews with prominent politicians and high-profile individuals.

Some of it is bloody obvious - but some more subtle, and I think in this 'volatile' climate, it's not only dangerous, but it also detracts from the issue at hand...

For me it's reached the stage where if I see a politician 'holding forth' in earnest... I treat the video with the same suspicion as I do with 'phone callers whose numbers I don't recognise - assume all are scammers.

AI does sometimes make it difficult to know what’s true and what isn’t, we can spend our time googling different sources, which most of us already do.

However, let’s not pretend “Fake News” is anything new, been round in some form since town cryers and WW propaganda.

It doesn’t make anyone simple or stupid if they occasionally believe something they see online and UTube has plenty of factual information among its content.
