Nobody knows exactly why they are estranged. My sister in law was brought up by her dad when her mother died. Like Meghan and Thomas they were very close. Then he got married again and she married my brother and had 3 children. Her dad adored them but she and my brother didn’t like the way he behaved with them or tried to take control. Next thing we knew they were estranged. Poor man was distraught and rang my mum and dad asking them to help but, of course, there was nothing they could do. They never interfered - I think if they had done they too would have been cast out. So the children grew up with just my parents as grandma and grandad.

Fast forward dad dies and mum has dementia. Brother thinks she should be in a home but she won’t go so he estranges himself from the carers leaving me to deal with them from 200 miles away ( He lives 5 miles away. A year later mum dies and I query actions he takes as executor so he estranges me. I sent him a peace branch when dd was getting married - invite came back addresses to Mr. And Mrs. Haven’t heard from him since. All about control? Idk.

Nobody knows in these cases. At least she seems to be asking after him.

Harry is a middle-aged man whom none of you know personally. This “concern” for his past wasn’t even what I was referencing primarily, but I will also include it in the silly. His childhood is over and this so-called “concern” for it is nothing but a stick currently used to bash him and his wife.

I find the level of investment in the personal relationships of complete strangers comical. So much “knowledge” of childhoods and familial relationships displayed by people who haven’t so much as taken a photograph with the subjects, much less had a real conversation with them. Yet, so many just “know” about the inner workings of multiple families that no one here is part of. To speak so matter-of-factly about a neighbors family would be silly, seeing as how no one knows what goes on behind the closed doors of people we actually know. To speak with such staunch “knowledge” about famous people’s upbringings we’ve never met borders on delusional. It’s one thing to comment about public actions. It’s entirely another to presume you know what someone’s childhood was like. It’s irrational and strange.
