This is such a blow in my opinion.
I have heard this man speak, seen what he's done, witnessed his dedication and commitment to trying to get things right for young people.
I think it's really really sad he feels he needs to step aside.
I have always thought him to be a truly honourable man.
If you had been let down, ignored, verbally abused by police would you trust one that that is heading an enquiry?
No, you’d be thinking he’s judging me just like all the others
If you were this woman, would you?

I really don't want to gaslight this woman because I'm acutely aware that not being believed is at the core of the inquiry and what all the women suffered.
Nevertheless, there's a problem. My guess is that they find it difficult to trust anybody as a result of what happened. They're cautious - paranoid almost - about trusting anybody. Consequently, it's not surprising that they're now tragically blaming people who are trying to help.
Incidentally, I'm not Jess Phillips' greatest fan (for a number of reasons), but I think she's been scapegoated here. She's always been on the side of women and children and has spoken up for them. I've also seen footage of her standing up to bullying Pakistani constituents, so I think those who accuse her of a cover up are smearing her.
I've also read the letter from Fiona Goddard, in which she accuses Phillips of calling her a liar. I know she's been called a liar in the past, but in this case I think she is wrong. Phillips claimed she (Goddard) had misunderstood, but that's not the same as calling somebody a liar. The media and Conservatives have picked up on it and are point-scoring.
