The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.
The problem with this quote is that it was said by someone who was entirely ignorant of how money is created and circulates in a national economy. We are still suffering from the economic damage she initiated over 40 years ago.

A very worthy recipient! Well done the panel.

^£20 million is absolutely nothing in the context of government spending.^
“The problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other people's money.”
It's hardly socialism. £20 million really is a very small amount to buy goodwill in an area where there will no doubt be opportunities for some very lucrative contracts in the near future. Not only that but it's better to give Gazans an incentive to stay rather than having them trekking across Europe and rocking up on our shores in an inflatable boat.
If the UK and other western powers don't donate money to Gaza, you can bet anything you like that countries such as China will. China is already getting a foothold in parts of Africa.

If nominations have to be submitted by January and the ceasefire is still holding and there are signs of genuine recovery in Gaza and settlers have stopped stealing land in the West Bank, I wouldn't begrudge Trump his Nobel Prize.
I suspect that Qatar and Egypt have been manoeuvring behind the scenes to have Trump take charge of this. They needed the US onside because they're the ones with the money. They also needed to dissuade Trump from building a theme park in Gaza, so they needed to flatter him. However painful it is, the way to get Trump to do something is to suck up to him and tell him how wonderful he is. I think this year's winner of the Peace Prize is a farce, so Trump wouldn't be any worse. In fact, if his intervention does lead to peace for any significant time, he's actually achieved something.

Less than 50p each adult in the UK.
It's a drop in the ocean.
Where does anyone begin?
Even buildings that might look as if they're standing are probably unsafe.

Let’s not forget Starmer has now said we will be sending £20million to rebuild Gaza. Money we don’t have and which we will have to borrow.
I can’t believe you actually said that. Words fail me.

. . . and Trump is so convinced himself that he deserves the Nobel Peace Prize that it would not surprise me at all if he assumes that the actual recipient believes that too. It is how his mind works - "Everyone says I am the greatest [at whatever incredible achievement he is imagining for himself] "
Tbh I don’t care, if he manages to stop other wars as well as the one in Gaza then he’ll deserve the prize next year.
Agreed.
I heard on TV today that nominations for the NPP have to be in by end of January. Several Presidents of other countries said today they would be nominating DT for it next year because he has achieved an end to the war which has gone on for so very long.
Keir Starmer was asked in an interview with Beth Rigby whether he would be nominating DT for the NPP and he sidestepped that by not answering directly (as usual) and saying “plenty of other countries would be doing so.” He is pathetic.I would replace the word pathetic with diplomatic…do you honestly think he should have said of course I will? I think your loathing of the man clouds your vision.
Well it wouldn’t have hurt Starmer to say something positive surely? He was just a hanger-on today.
You mean you wanted him to tell a lie?

“According to the Costs of War Project at Brown University, the United States spent $17.9 billion on military aid to Israel from October 2023 to October 2024. In December 2023, the WSJ report stated that US arms shipments to Israel since the start of the war included 15,000 bombs and 57,000 155mm artillery shells.”
Ok so Trump wasn’t president for all of that time but to give the peace prize to someone from that country after they’ve financially fuelled the conflict doesn’t sit right with me…
I think the diplomatic response would have been ‘ I shall give it some thought’. We do need DT on our side.

I keep wondering how much Trump has paid each side so he can get the Nobel prize he covets because Barack Obama got one. He expects to buy whatever he wants.

I agree Magenta, not supporting Israel is not supporting Hamas. There was an Israeli man being interviewed this morning who didn't support what Netanyahu has done and certainly wasn't a Hamas supporter either.
He said that had Netanyahu acted sooner in the interest of the hostages, he believed his cousin would still be alive.
Some expected BN to be a miracle maker! But you can understand those who lost loved ones to the vile hamas will be critical.
There wasn’t any other way of getting to hamas and hounding them out of being a ruling body in Gaza.Even after everything they are still trying to cling on.It had to be done.

Not if you’re Jewish there isn’t. In any case who could support hamas on here?
Being sad for the Palestinians is one thing but not hamas!
Of course it's possible to be critical and objective, even if you're Jewish. Many Jewish writers and critics are objective, just as anybody is capable of being objective about their own "clan" if they put their mind to it.

^So what if she supports Israel, many people do. The alternative is supporting Hamas.^
I disagree Oreo. There is also the option of supporting neither side. Both sides have been shown to have committed crimes against humanity.
I agree with you Magenta. I wasn't aware that people had to sign up to support one side or other. Israel/Hamas aren't Liverpool/Everton or Rangers/Celtic.
It's possible to be critical and objective.

Well said!
I also find it refreshing that people realise there are lots of things going on in the world not always covered by the media...
