In Tel Aviv Witkoff gave his speech telling Israelis their families would be home soon. Their were enormous cheers and cries of love for Trump. When Netanyahu was mentioned the cheers turned to loud boos.

Now that is very significant.

For Maremia, Israel has a proportional representation voting system. Nowadays in Israel (as with many other nations who use the PR system) it means you often end up with a number of smaller parties who then try to form a coalition so they have the numbers to make a majority.

We can be sure there are going to be incidents that break ceasefire, not least because many Hamas want to fight on.

Until a permanent security force is actually in control, that will take time. The civilian infrastructure has to be rebuilt as well.

A brief look at this mornings news does suggest some Hamas people want to continue fighting. There was reference to seeking out people who support the ceasefire, ie support Israel.

Then we have the illegal settlers, with a similar mindset. Pray for peace

Apologies if I've not been clear enough sometimes Iam64 - though I guess it might help if there weren't people taking it upon themselves to be censors.

I've never once - on any forum ever - asked for someone else's post to be censored off - as I do believe firmly "Britain is a free country - we all have the right to freedom of speech" and it's not appropriate to ask for posts to be censored off anywhere - just because one personally disagrees with it. Someone has lost their side of an argument straight off if they try and have the other viewpoint removed and has lost the right for it to be taken seriously as a different viewpoint.

Hamas will have recruited more young men during the war as they had more access to food and other resources. IMO the longer the war continued and aid was restricted, Hamas was able to recruit young men possibly more than the IDF were managing to kill. Totally counter productive. As many had been saying this war was an effective recruitment campaign for Hamas leaving Israel less safe than it was prior to the war.

How could it be otherwise for some, as they watched friends and family killed, whole infrastructures destroyed, and latterly a deliberate policy of starvation?

However I'd like to venture that not all those who have joined Hamas are as evil as most of those who joined in the worst of October 23? In any group you will have those who ar lost in hatred, (or simple greed?

And those who wish to protect those around them and have seen no other way. I'm saying "they are not all the same" .

That couldn’t be helped ( hamas recruiting) but I bet many joined just for the food and perks.
That should stop now or very soon as hundreds of aid lorries enter Gaza.
Hamas are afraid of all the family clans, blood being thicker than ideology when it comes down to it.

Nobody is acting as an unofficial censor, moderation is left to the moderators, but anybody may question attitudes or opinions - or indeed the denial of facts such as the legitimate existence of Israel - for which no quote marks are needed.
This is not a viewpoint but reality denial.

I don’t think that Israel had any other choice but to fight back. Hamas had been planning this attack for many years. I don’t think Israel can ever trust the Palestinians again.

As for hamas recruiting, people in Gaza do realise that the death and destruction was brought down upon them by their own governing body, hamas.

I can't understand why we mere amateurs ( I think? mostly?) feel qualified to comment on Hamas this, Hamas that.

It must be an incredibly complex situation which has gone on for years. I would imagine diasaffected young men possibly from refugee camps which have been attacked ,see this as a legitimate way forward.

Surely war and people are much more complicated than good guys and bad guys.

For the record I do not support Hamas or terrorist organisations.

The response by Hamas to conditions in the peace settlement will doubtless prove either way where Hamas places its priorities. Is it a safe country for the people of Gaza or the continuation of Hamas as a political force? Hamas needs to leave.

I was suggesting that not all people who joined Hamas were the same, Ronib, up thread.

Why must we persist "they are all the same" - because "they" are not, and some will wish to rebuild not destroy

I agree Wyllow. There seems to be a perception that all Hamas are uneducated thugs. My DD was tutoring a Palestinian boy online, at the beginning of the war, who wanted to study engineering. He told her after his lesson that he was joining the " freedom fighters" along with some of his friends as the IDF were harassing his family every night and wouldn't let them sleep.
This is another side to a story of young men who just wanted to go to university and and do some good for their families.
