Farage tax avoidance

IPSA shows that Farage hasn't (yet) claimed any expenses for accommodation. I don't have access to Reform corporate data, but it wouldn't surprise me if Farage is savvy enough to be perfectly legal.

The latest figures I could find is a report from 2012 which suggests that 78% of U.K. MPs are millionaires.

Open Democracy UK has a report dated 2/06/2017 showing the disparity between MPs and the electorate.

But Farage isn’t just any ‘other multimillionaire’ - he’s an MP in the UK Parliament and the leader of a UK political party.

I think we can safely say there will be quite a few multimillionaires in the UK Parliament, not just Farage. Not the rarity they used to be nowadays.

Politicians despite making the laws should not be above the law.

Unfortunately there are so many grey areas regarding tax, trusts and off shore companies, that give people a chance to sail close to the edge of legality.

It is these areas which cause problems, even for the experts.

This is very wise.

In April 2025 Nigel Farage was paid £40,000 by firm that helps super rich cut tax bills.

So Farage has known exactly what he has been doing. After lecturing rich people how to cut bills, he cannot in any reasonable way claim it was anything but deliberate

One problem with the media and Farage is that, just as it is with every potential government party, they publish every promise, statement or claim made, which cannot be verified until they come to power.

Then their claims will be attacked or discredited as the LP and CP before them have discovered.

Much better to focus on investigating NF’s other potential or existing wrongdoings.
Or maybe hounding NF for explanations of HOW he will stop the boats in two weeks!

Farage has been an absolute gift to journalists all this summer, enlivening the silly season with incitement to racist protest and demented fantasies of deportation of immigrants. I really can’t see them destroying the goose that lays them such lovely golden eggs.

I don't usually use Google. My default search engine disclosed nothing beyond the company he uses to minimise tax on his GB News earnings and the fact that the house near Clacton* was supposedly purchased by his girlfriend, not him.

So I changed my search engine to google and it only told me about the GB News company.

I'd be interested to know what it's telling you, Casdon

This is a two minute Google search as I’m on my way out. There’s also a thread on Mumsnet with more. As I said, there is definitely digging, but I’m sure it’s on others too, so whether Farage will rise to the top first is unknown.

The GB News company is legal, though frowned upon and the house was ostensibly purchased by his girlfriend, so no stamp duty.

As someone from her constituency on the news pointed out, if we’d been caught out we’d have suffered the consequences, so why shouldn’t she (AR)?

There is left wing media too though LizzieDrip, and you can guarantee that if the Mirror for example has a big scoop it will be picked up - at the end of the day the story is more important than the individual, and they revel in bringing big names down - Boris Johnson was their darling if you remember.

I suspect a lot of MPs are concerned. The media is always searching for sensation, and that desire is definitely escalating. You can see it on both right and left biased media, there have been several stories about people other than Rayner in the last few days. She will be yesterday’s news by the middle of next week.

Subsequent Governments have been happy to leave the many tax loop holes open, as long as they remain people will use them.
