I am very pleased that those things happen here. I don't know that I have a right to be proud of it though. What did I do to make them happen? Women were being educated before I was born, and whilst gay men could be imprisoned they were not being executed.

I am happy to be British - is that the same as being proud? Isn't Pride a deadly sin?

Also, even if it was true, I don't want to live in a country where action is taken because of the thoughts in peoples heads. That is beyond terrifying to me.

They are at war. As yet we are not. If we were I'm sure there would be flags on the top of heaps of rubble. Flags have always been used to pass messages. However, such messages should come under the freedom of speech limitations on freedom of expression.m

Isn’t it odd though, are we the only country where nasty bigots can weaponise our flag? Our village is festooned with union flags and some county flags. It brightens the centre up and we’ve had no awful people stirring triubkr (yet)

No, it's not a flag, it's the fact that it has been mobilized by one or two manipulative extreme right wing leaders and a load of gammons are up for a scrap.

Maybe on a special day like the Coronation .I made a patriotic looking dress to wear in London.
I love England/UK and also a staunch European. I feel though that the flag has been largely appropriated by racists and those who are full of hate for immigrants. Yes the numbers should be controlled but these people are organised and just plain nasty. I have family working in one of the so called luxury hotels ( it's clean but basic, they have meals but don't spend the day there, have the huge sum of £9 a week for anything they need) My relative is discouraged from talking about where she works for fear of attack.
So flag waving, strictly on public buildings, sport, and the Royal family until the country becomes a bit less toxic.

I was born in England but am of Irish heritage, I am proud of both England and Ireland.

My daughter lives on the outskirts of a village that has scores of union flags flying, it lifts my spirits as we drive in.

On a recent trip to Norway I loved seeing all the homes flying their flag and wondered why we don’t have same sense of patriotism.

I will fly a flag, I’m going to order a pole and we will fly the flag my husbands grandparents flew on their flagpole on VE Day.

I am not a racist, our grandchildren are mixed race, we have friends who are Congolese, Sri Lankan, Egyptian etc.

I am however British and very proud, we need to reclaim our flag and our pride.
