Israel attack on Iran

I just pray this is not the start of World War 3, the whole thing is sickening and so very dangerous. There are so many different opinions with so many now supporting anti Israeli forces in the West it will be utter chaos. Most of us just want to live our lives in peace, we don’t need this.

This is certainly a question that needs to be asked and answered. It happened on Netanyahu's watch and has now escalated into giving him the opportunity to activate his long held plan to attack Iran. Meanwhile, Israel continues to live in a state of emergency. Time will tell if Netanyahu's decision was the right one for mankind or a self serving disaster.

I think frankly that Israel has acted in contravention of international law because the USA and Iran were in the middle of what ostensibly were peace negotiations, and Israel quite literally has put a bomb under that.

Nor clear (as ever) what Trump makes of it.

Netanyahu is already indicted for war crimes, so this will make no difference to him.

We seem to be entering an age of impunity.

We will live to seriously regret this.

So those arguing that Israel is saving mankind from Iran, couldn’t be further from the truth.

Quite the opposite in fact.

It was generally thought that Trump “deal” with Iran was going to be successful which would have meant that Iran. No longer worked on their nuclear programme.

Netanyahu has made sure that isn’t going ahead.

That is falling for Trump’s claiming credit and trying to save face.

The 60 day was cited by Trump after the Israeli attack.

Trump did not know of Israel’s plan, he was hoping to conclude the deal next week. In fact he said so.

Israel, might have put Iran’s nuclear programme back but they have guaranteed that Iran will become a state with nuclear warfare capacity.

Iran is undoubtedly an illegitimate authoritarian regime and there is always the possibility that the regime will fall - but only almost certainly to the military, and then what?

I read threads like this one knowing that some of the shock over the situation we are in comes from those who voted for anti-democratic extremists. Why are people so suprised? If you vote on the basis of who entertains you the most, treating you like a small child at Christmas, what do you expect?

My only hope now is that these voters do not swing to the other extreme, but instead recognise that politics should focus on practical qualities - such as understanding the law, facilitating negotiations that satisfy all parties, and most importantly, preserving democracy. Sometimes, this means valuing less entertaining but more effective and responsible leaders.

And yet talks were scheduled to continue this weekend.

I don’t remember that. If I said that Trump was involved it would have been because I had not yet given the matter very much thought, but I’ve had 24 hours to think things through since then, and I am now of the opinion that Trump (contrary to what he may be claiming) did not know of Netanyahu’s plan.

Netanyahu has undoubtedly calculated that he can get away with this sort of behaviour because he knows that Trump will never follow it through. He had watched Putin and has learned this lesson.

Trump has failed to achieve a single deal that he said would be so easy.

In Ukraine, Gaza and now Iran.

Well let’s give Trump points for trying?? Or not…. It’s not the equivalent of icing a cake is it? Pretty impossible task?

I wonder how Israelis feel about the Netanyahu government leading them into war with Iran.
Already people have been killed and many injured by the attack by Iran.

Like others I wonder why now when Israeli intelligence would have been aware for a while that Iran was building a nuclear weapon.

If you’d been watching throughout the years you would understand that the task is not impossible.

Look at the Obama deal!

That had been sealed to everyone’s satisfaction.

Trump got in and trashed it.

You could almost say that he is responsible for what is happening now.
