I asked my friend in France about it today. I don't think French people are particularly bothered by it, (maybe they should be), neither are they bothered whether he is gay or not. I agree with them, as long as it doesn't affect his work.

I remember reading some years back that they met at school when he was 15 and Brigitte was his 39 year old teacher.
