Letters from America

If anyone is in any doubt about what is going on in the USA at the moment listen or read Heather Cox Richardson’s Letter from America. I receive this via email as a written document. I’m sorry but I couldn’t find a link and can’t copy/paste the whole of the email. The Letter was originally sent to my by a distant relative from Georgia, USA, a political democrat.

The Letter details how the Trump administration is destroying the governance of the USA and putting in place another government structure. Below is an extract from the Letter I received today.

Last month, journalist Gil Duran of The Nerd Reich noted that Curtis Yarvin, a thinker popular with the technological elite currently aligned with the religious extremists at Project 2025, laid out a plan in 2022 to gut the U.S. government and replace it with a dictatorship. This would be a “reboot” of the country, Yarvin wrote, and it would require a “full power start,” a reference to restarting a stalled starship by jumping to full power, which risks destroying the ship.

This all just fills me with dread as I watch this unfold. Another oligarchical state. The sooner we are closer to Europe the better and beware of Reform. Farage and co are great supporters of Trump.

He is the most pathetic bag of s..t and frankly it is time we stopped listening to the garbage peeing out if his tiny mouth.

Aka verbal diarrhoea.
However, as an elected POTUS he is in a position of power.

Has anyone re-investigated the election results to find out if they were fraudulent? Strange things happened in the last election although claims of fraud apparently proved unfounded. 🤔

BlessedArt Sat 24-Jan-26 11:56:25

@Wyllow

I read about that too. This is what Trump has emboldened in the US.

Well said, BlessedArt. I wont quote your whole post because it is rather long but GNters should read and understand. It is only a matter of time before American white families begin hiding brown families in their cellars and such.

Many Americans in Minneapolis, white and not, have already started to take steps to help their fellow Americans by alerting each other to potential ICE visits. People forget that nearly half of the voters did not vote for Trump. They’re just trying to survive his term.

As for the eligible non-voters, I hope anyone who thought it was appropriate to sit out this last election shows up during Midterms. Democrats are in my opinion frequently toothless, but without flipping the House or Senate, the US can forget about checks and balances. People forget that Trump put more federal judges—all very right wing— on the bench than practically any other president in US history during his first term. Few have ruled against his policies in court challenges. That, along with his luck of retiring liberal Supreme Court justices and RBG dying set a beautiful stage to erode the checks and balances system. It allowed him to appoint multiple justices in the highest court that keep feeding his power, with the lower courts stacked in his favor as well. The highest court in the judicial branch now has justices (looking at you Clarence Thomas) who openly accept expensive and trips from major Trump donors and supporters. Without Democrats taking congress, there are no genuine checks and balances anymore. He’s using the justice department as his personal payback agency with few judges challenging the legality of his revenge term. The situation is very dire. I am sad and angry that the country I chose to raise my family in is turning into this shadow of itself in terms true freedom and fairness. Some of my grandchildren are still being raised there. I am worried.

If you join the new "Christian Nationalist" group that are buying up tracts of land in Tenessee, to set up a ""State within a state" you wont get to vote tho, despite said ankle length prairie dress et al.

Their plans are that one family gets one vote, the husband.
On R4

"When Christian Nationalists come to town"

www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0mp4k8c

as for the poor inhabitants of the little town (Gainesboro) they are taking over, it will be accept or move out.

It makes an interesting listen actually and only 26 mins but gives a lot of insight into their "ideologies"

Mackir Sat 24-Jan-26 10:55:27

Oops you already said that.

Also if you are female, long hair, wearing an ankle length prairie dress, stay home full time wirh 5 + babies you will not get deported.

Mackir Sat 24-Jan-26 10:50:23

And white skinned !

AGAA4 Sat 24-Jan-26 10:46:48

If you are rich, white and preferably male in Trump's US you will probably do well. Everyone else not so much.

It is so important to listen to the garbage peeing out of his mouth until there is a regime change because until then the whole world is in fire. Who are going to extinguish the nonsense? Saudi, China and Russia are watching intently.

The American people voted for Trump, he's who they wanted and he's who they got. The only people who can do anything about President Trump, are the American people. The one thing I do not understand is where on earth is Congress? Or is the President now just a law unto himself, nothing is debated anymore?

Congress can remove impeach a president due to bribery or treason and then Vance would become president. That is their long term goal anyways. Trump would become vice president. Doesnt help anything or anyone

Mackir Sat 24-Jan-26 06:10:47

I disagree. We need to help the American people do something about Trump.for the sake of the world. Americans have their hands tied due to shock and vulnerabiliry. Eu needs to assist the American people... the 50% that voted.against orange

During the week I heard of a local family ,who are half American and half English having their visas delayed due to the net browsing of two of their children aged under 13 .
The insanity of it all really struck me .

Downplaying, minimizing, or denying the inherently white supremacist/ misogynist/xenophobic agenda of Trump/Vance and Co, Project 2025, and Republicans in general today is simply denying truth. Their agenda is simply to ensure white male control over the majority of US wealth and institutions.

They are dismantling any healthcare and educational structures that have helped the advancement of women and minorities. RFK is pushing healthcare agendas that harm children, including anti-vax policies while the country is experiencing a measles outbreak. Dr. Oz has quite recently alluded to the need for more white babies. Why should the race of any child matter in terms of population? Trump has openly stated that the Civil Rights movement somehow harmed white people, as only a racist would say. The attacks on funding of public education are specifically to target those who would not have opportunities without it. They are cutting food and childcare assistance in states with large working class and minority populations. Trump’s attacks on DEI and Affirmative Action are directly in response to their success in advancing minorities and women in education and business. The rhetoric frequently used by the US right is that they are “taking their country back”. From whom? Other Americans?

The communities targeted by these domestic policies make up nearly half the US population. I see people on Gransnet going on and on in thread after thread about Americans being ignorant or not caring about what Trump is doing to the rest of the world, yet few here have the slightest clue about what he’s really doing besides literally building and untrained, aggressive, modern Gestapo to harass the population of people of colour in the US. They are going door to door like Gestapo. In Minnesota, they’ve detained American citizens, pulled from their home and accosted without a warrant. A police chief is reporting his officers have been harassed while off-duty by ICE. He is using the military to quell protests by his own people. Indeed the US is transforming into an autocracy in front of our very eyes. We can whinge about Trump’s international attitude all we want, but nearly half the US population will slowly lose so much more under this psychos “leadership”. Voting rights are under attack by Republicans and he keeps alluding to the lack of a need for elections. The damage being done in this term will echo for decades.

These people deserve a full apology now or Starmer needs to confront Trump about this.

As an aside (and not meant to derail) does anyone remember the radio series called Letter from America by Alistair Cooke which ran for years on Radio 4?

Always interesting and informative and much missed.

Yes my mother listened to him avidly.

The whole push of internal policy is to drop federal provision of any social or medical service, to dismantle it piece by piece so eventually all depends on private insurances.

This, backed up by tax cuts on money which previously funded these services. It's an attack on the concept of welfare and equality of access to services being the responsibility of government.

The consequences are clear to me, and run against everything I believe in - that in some way as human beings, we are "all in it together", and a complex society demands we publicly fund this "together".

But as well as the ideology of it all, it makes sense to have a population that is as healthy and as educated as possible Trump is ripping up possibilities for this. 🤬

POTUS said in his speech that NATO Troops had never come to the aid of America, and those who did go to Afghanistan were nowhere near the frontlines.

As a parent of a serving Officer who has been to Iraq, Afghanistan and the Gulf States with NATO and the Americans I am totally disgusted by his dismissal of the 457 U.K. Forces Personnel who lost their lives and over 2,000 who lost limbs and been severely injured in Afghanistan.

How on earth can he stand at the WEF in front of influential and intelligent and blatantly lie 🤬🤬🤬

So true.
And that is without mentioning the sacrifices made by allies in the Iraq war.
So insulting and offensive to those who served and were killed or injured and their loved ones.

Wyllow3 Fri 23-Jan-26 08:42:32

thank you for this powerful thread. I have bookmarked the Heather Cox report given above by ayse

heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/

... its accessible, readable, and can be gone to in the future to check events out.

Glad to see the couple who were thrown out and had a roadside brith are taking it all the way in the courts - that will gain a heck of a lot of publicity.

and you are so right GG13 of the total blanket ignoring of troops, doctors, and more, from the UK (and other nations, but mainly us) by Trump.
