Good. I should think so too - no matter what his duplicitous solicitor tried to tell us on a televised appearance!
Sentencing mid January.

Surely the initial appearance will be to enter pleas of guilty or not guilty, not commence a trial?

Unless I'm wrong, a full trial will then be scheduled if the pleas are not guilty

If pleas are guilty, sentencing is then the next step, either immediately or at a further hearing.

Yes, this trial will be like any other, assuming of course, that the interference and stirring by Reform hasn't given the accused's defence team plenty to argue about.

Did Reform interfer, no. They just said they would take out a private prosecution if the CPS did not. I find it strange that these thugs, seen on video, attacking police officers were not charged and put in jail as quickly as those who rioted.
That is what gives the idea of two tier policing.

In what way isn’t the leader of Reform making a public statement about an ongoing CPS investigation not interfering Freya5?

I’m pleased that the right decision has been made.
I’m surprised it took so long, but it got there in the end.

Finally. The original footage gave a very one-sided view of the incident. I don't suppose it will stop the shouts of racist from some/

Wasn’t it more Farage (I think) saying this was disgraceful (it was) and saying if prosecutions weren’t made a civil action would be undertaken?

Farage, as always, cannot let an opportunity for self promotion go by.

This case, like all cases, was reviewed by CPS, and a trial (not sentencing as a previous poster erroneously said) will commence in January. This is how the law operates in this country, whatever the skin colour or religion of the accused.

And you cannot miss an opportunity to give Farage a good metaphorical kicking can you? 😵‍💫🤓…

Iam64 Sat 21-Dec-24 07:42:36

Freya, the reason the rioters were processed so quickly was in an attempt to stop the riots which were dangerous.

The criminal justice system is backlogged. There are reports of 5 year waits for some rape trials. The government is taking action, as the previous govt should have done but it’s not going to happen over night. The CPS rightly gave detailed attention to the assaults at Manchester airport, we need to ensure a fair trial and no getting off on technicalities.

A good result, the video of those men showed frightening levels of violence, hope they get long sentences.

Not only were Farage's comments interfering in a complex police CPS investigation problematic in terms of interfering with due process and self publicising,

but as one poster pointed out above, it actually left a number of people with the impression that the prosecution only took place as the result of private civil proceedings!

I can remember a thread about 2 months after events saying "why has nothing happened yet" and posters pointing out just how much evidence had to be sifted through (events at the airport happened in 3 different places - CCTV, webcams, witness statements)
as well as the complications of decision about ?police prosecution.

I’m just glad that the right decision has finally been made and I hope these two vile men get a strong punishment for their disgusting behaviour.

The news today is extremely disturbing. Seeing that older brother walking away sneering and grinning makes me feel sick.
I can’t even put into words how disappointed I am.

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 29-May-26 20:31:42

I live in Manchester and like many of my friends and neighbours we were shocked by this incident. That poor policewoman with a broken nose!

How can 2 juries not convict when the evidence on video etc is incontrovertible??

Spinnaker Fri 29-May-26 20:39:03

And then this government has the nerve to say there's no such thing as two tier justice/policing in this country - really ? 😡😡

The whole set up stinks.

You don’t have to be a genius to figure that out 😉

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 29-May-26 20:43:18

Hmm. I thought the same petra!

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 29-May-26 20:52:36

This, in the Manchester area will ensure Reform UK win that by election next month in Makerfield. I’d put money on it.

GrannyGravy13 Fri 29-May-26 20:56:31

I have no words…

Wyllow3 Fri 29-May-26 21:13:07

How on earth can you attribute proper jury decisions to some kind of political machinations? I'm not disagreeing or agreeing with you, btw, as I haven't followed the fine details of the case, or the nature of the arguments incur, it would be good to see an account to understand more if you have one,

But the decision was made in the proper manner by our jury system not Burnham.

But it was the jury which decided. It was the police who were the victims.

Wyllow3 Fri 29-May-26 21:14:00

Not "incur", but "in court".

Exactly, Wyllow.

If anything, it is the jury system which needs examining ie judgment by the people.

Don't forget that the jury almost certainly lived in Greater Manchester and are voters.

Wyllow3 Fri 29-May-26 21:21:51

There is a full report here.

www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/cd0px74kznxo

note: "We are cognisant of the ongoing IOPC investigation into the conduct of our officers"
Ie, a police internal investigation is still going on.

After it had gone through the jury system twice, I think it's time to accept the verdict frankly, and it was a very complicated long series of events that led to the final events

There are videos in this report of the initial events.

Wyllow3 Fri 29-May-26 21:50:48

You know who they were?

FriedGreenTomatoes2 Fri 29-May-26 21:53:51

The defence solicitor is the same solicitor that is defending Nicola Sturgeon

But if useless information on a Friday night

How could these thugs who attacked the Police afford expensive representation??
