10 lady pensioners are out for lunch recently and all agreed that the WFA needed to be means tested!! However we all said that it was implemented in an inconsiderate way!
Only 50% of middle age adult manage more than 1 brisk 10 min walk a month.

Racing up the charts apparently.

My message should have said no money for pensioners.
Even to day Lammy has given 50 billion to Syria. How come there was money for pensioners. Plenty of money to send abroad.
I don't see him being a hypocrite, well, any more than the other pms.
Most on here supported Starmer. You get what you vote for. Horrible situation, but I can’t say it surprises me with a hypocrite like him in the driver’s seat.
It's important to actively explore other forms of support available to you, such as Universal Credit or housing benefits, even if you don't qualify for Pension Credit.
Many individuals may overlook potential financial aid or discounts for council tax, prescriptions, or energy bills, so reaching out to local councils or welfare organizations can provide valuable guidance and assistance tailored to your circumstances.
According to Money Box Radio 4 Local Councils are proactively contacting people in their areas if they don't qualify for the Pension Credit but do qualify for Council Tax credit or other benefits..
Cheer yourself up. Find out what expenses your MP has claimed over the last few years.

Yes I know the if they couldn’t claim expenses on top of their £91,000pa, we would only have rich people running for office chant,
BUT
do we see any of those who can afford to run for office, giving up their expenses or having them withdrawn because they are wealthy enough to do without using the same excuse as for the WFA?

I agree with you but I also believe ( correct me if I’m wrong ) it isn’t just one form to fill in but more like a book

Well this has turned into a right old argy bargy hasn’t it😁 just too add my two pennorth all those saying contact the council or age concern etc what about all the people who are just over the threshold for assistance but still don’t have enough fund to heat their homes.
According to some these people don't exist. Some even think every house requires exactly the same amount of heat to warm it. Size, location, construction and levels of insulation are totally irrelevant! If one poster can keep their house warm on peanuts so can everybody else. A well insulated modern property in the south is no different to heat than a draughty, poorly constructed and insulated property in the highlands of Scotland.
No impact assessment was carried out before the WFP was withdrawn from all who weren't on pension credit Labour have admitted. I call that shameful and I voted for them!
Check out the ideas on the old thread, local councils have hardship grants (non means tested) and there are charities as well. Also local councillors will help if they can short cut council hassles.

^ So is "don't even try, just complain online" your answer?^
Thats your suggestion, not mine, so is that what you do?
It is true however, that a much more prompt reaction appears on GN than does when you write/phone/email to the council.

If any expects to freeze please, please contact your council.

And the Council will refer you to a different dept where nobody answers the phone and when you try again you’ll be number 40 in the queue. If you’re very persistent you’ll get someone to promise they’ll send out a form which will never be delivered. If you’re not losing the will to live by that point and manage to get a form/ phone call they’ll tell you that you’re eligible…..but then do bugger all to actually get money to you.
That doesn’t just apply to this situation either.

We've already had a long thread about this
www.gransnet.com/forums/news_and_politics/1343288-Aiming-to-be-Christmas-No-1?msgid=30920952Oh well, here’s another one! I didn’t realise there was another one as I am spending most of my time at the hospital or driving there/back.
If poeple are anything like me, for various reasons, I am not on here as much lately, and the other thread happened to pass me by.

Put your heating on, and drive to the nearest food bank, perhaps?
Easy to access, you can choose whatever you want, so rumour has it.

I listened to this this morning as I saw a report that it had reached no.1.
I understand why people made it and good for them.
BUT, the pictures shown were a bit silly: old man outside during snowfal, thick coat but not wearing a hat, several pictures of people supposedly freezing but with bare arms. That sort of stuff.
I think that detracted from the message rather.A wingers truth perhaps. It surprises me that so many who can access the internet to post on here cannot access the help that is readily available.

And I don't like not being able to spell, or choose the right "theirs" either.
I don't mind at all what others want to do.
Good luck, and I genuinely hope they enjoy it (though I expect there are many who don't really, or cover up how hellish there's was)
I don't like virtual whatsitcalled, though, and I think this record is it.
