Only 35% of those who voted, voted for Labour and only 20% of all who could have voted. It's very low. Of those who did vote some just wanted the Tories out. So not much support for the Labour Party.

And less than that voted for the Tories. But, to repeat, with our current democratic system, that’s irrelevant. Labour got more votes than any other party in 412 seats, so they have an unassailable majority.

Well done Spinnaker! I signed too. Not that I expect another General Election but as a pensioner I already have so little control over this government that just watching those signatures increase so rapidly gave me some satisfaction. If nothing else it will send a message to Labour just how many of us are dis-satisfied (to put it mildly) with their policies, none of which were included in their Manifesto. There are over 2 million signatures now.

As a pensioner you have little or no control over whatever govt is in power. The only thing you can do is to vote the sitting out at a GE. But not 5 months after they were elected.

I live in a rural area, a vote for labour is pretty wasted so I voted Lib Dem. There was a lot of tactical voting but the fact remains Labour won the election, got a thumping majority and has a five year term in government. Sign away but it will make not a jot of difference to who is in power.

With regard to WFP there has been a massive increase in applications for pension credit (242,000), as far as I am concerned every pensioner who gets PC is a huge win as it's putting money in the pocket of those who need it most.

I agree foxie48, that is the right way forward for those who really do need the financial support.

What is it that makes people trot out the same argument all the time when they know how our democratic system works, and that under our democratic system Labour have a huge majority. Vat on private school fees was in their manifesto and appears to be supported by the majority. Why should the tax payer subsidise a for profit education system.

Do you know what, I’ve looked through nearly all this thread and the thoughts and expressions of most of the right wing, those who voted Labour to get the tories out and those sitting on the fence churn my stomach. I just wanted to say thank you to all those left leaning posters for sticking up for what’s right and moral. Thank you for being so eloquent in your defence of our beliefs. I’m just a working class woman who didn’t have a great education, but I know who’s right and thank you again.

VAT on private school fees is not exactly extreme socialism. Shutting them all down might be.

What's right and moral is honesty.
Honest taxes, honesty is not criticising the Opposition for something then doing the same yourself, whether that is Tories criticising Labour or vice versa.

Honesty in politics general seem sadly lacking.
