Very sad. I was a passenger in the Purley train crash in March 1989. A father of 8 who was going to London with his wife for his birthday treat was killed along with 4 other unfortunate people. It was driver error responsible for the crash. The Littlehampton express went through 2 red lights before crashing into my train which was 10 minutes late coming out of Purley station. The driver had already killed a rail construction worker by ignoring a red light some time before but the rail company allowed him to carry on driving passenger trains. He was jailed but it didn't bring back those poor people who lost their lives through a completely avoidable accident.
